She walks over to me, holding the remote to our sound system. The look on her face says she wants to dance. The music that starts playing says she wants me to hold her.
You’re the northern wind
Sending shivers down my spine
You’re like fallen leaves in an autumn night
She reaches me and takes my hand and laughs as I pretend to struggle against her pull. But I stand and walk with her to the middle of our living room. We face each other, and I place my other hand on her hip, and she places hers on my shoulder.
You’re the lullaby
That’s singing me to sleep
You are my other half,
You’re like my missing piece
We spin around the room as she starts to sing along.
Oh, my love
Oh, my love
Oh, my love
You don’t know what you do to me.
Oh, to me
I’ll never get over this. The feeling of her in my arms. The music playing around us as we spin. I could do this every day for the rest of my life and never tire of it.
You are all four seasons
Rolled into one.
You’re like the cold December snow in the warm July sun.
And I’m the jet-black sky
Just before the rain.
I’m the mighty current pulling you under the waves.
She gets closer and leans her head on my chest, taking her other hand to wrap both arms around my neck. I wrap my arms around her waist. We both sing to the chorus.
Oh, my love
Oh, my love
Oh, my love
You don’t know what you do to me
Oh, to me
Our spinning starts to slow as she looks up at me.
I’m the darkest hour
Just before the dawn
And I’m slowly sinking
Into the slough of despond
I stumble on the edge of the carpet, but she clings to me, so I don’t fall. And she laughs. After all these years, I still love her laugh. I hold her tighter.
But like an old guitar
Worn out and left behind
I have stories still to tell
They’re of the healing kind
Oh, my love
Oh, my love
Oh, my love
If I could just find you tonight
If I could just find you tonight
She moves her hand to cup my face. I see more love in her eyes than I ever thought I would see from anyone. And I know by the smile on her face, she sees the same love in mine.
Oh, my love
We spin as the song ends and I lean down to press a kiss to her forehead. She pulls me down again to press one to my lips.
“I told you I would find A love song you didn’t hate.” I roll my eyes.
“We settled this years ago. And you act like this is the song that won me over.” She laughs again.
“It’s not the song that won, but I did find a song that changed your mind!” I shake my head at her smile.
“It was never the song that changed my mind. It was you.” She blushes, and I brush a strand of hair from her cheek.
“I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
