It was hard to breath. The air burned as it rasped through my through and into my tired lungs. I'd been running for so long, longer than I'd ever run before, longer than I thought I even could run. But I had to keep going, otherwise he'd catch me.
The hedges loomed above my head, obscuring the moonlight and making it harder to see. I was coming up on an intersection, though, and the light was brighter there. I had to get out of this damn hedge maze! When I got to the crossroad, I slowed and tried to quiet my breathing. I peered out from the shadow of the plants beside me.
To the left, there was more maze, but to the right, it looked like almost a clear shot out of the maze. This was it. I could make it! Steeling myself, I pushed my screaming muscles and dashed out of the darkness.
I only made it a few steps.
A hand grabbed my arm. I choked back a scream and pushed down my panic, spinning around so fast I almost fell.
"GODDAMNIT ANDREW!" I shouted at him as he laughed. He gave me a stupid grin as he pulled me into a hug.
"Sorry, sorry! I didn't think you'd get scared," he chuckled. "So, I caught you, what do I win? That was the deal, right?"
I grumbled. That was what we had agreed on. If I could make it through the hedge maze without him catching me, I could ask him to do any one thing, and he could do the same of me if he caught me. I even had a three minute head start, but the maze was flipping huge.
"Yeah, that was the deal. What do you want?" I asked him. He seemed to think for a minute, and then smiled.
"Just a kiss," he replied with a wink. I rolled my eyes, and then gave him a peck on the nose. He looked surprised. "W-Hey, wait, you know that wasn't-"
"You never specified!" I laughed, sliding out of his arms and dashing to the end of the maze, to the festival beyond.
