The doors opened. “What?!?” Claris was saying as Alex limped out. “He can keep his position? Fine. Then you lose yours.”
“I don’t care” Glory retorted. “I didn’t want to find myself here in this position anyways.”
“Um, can I like, cut in?” Alex knew he sounded meek, but it was all he could say. They stared at him. “I think that Glory is being generous by giving up her position to keep mine.”
Kiony walked up. “Um, well, this would be against the rules”. Everyone knew that Kiony would never break the rules. “And, well, that’s not right.”
“Does anyone really have to follow this?” Glory asked.
Claris frowned. “I’ll dig through the rulebooks, but for now you two keep your positions.”
Glory walked off. Kiony sighed. That’s like trying to read a stump; she can block her thoughts easily without starfire; is that possible? Kiony could read minds - but when she did that, everyone could hear her next thought. A curse from Apollo and Ma’at.
Alex walked to the plaza in the middle of the camp. The camp was more like a city, and it had massive, towering, buildings everywhere. The plaza sat in the stone, and at each cardinal point was a fountain.
But the real attraction was the statue in the middle. Alex was shocked by its pristine condition. Before it was cracked and covered in moss. Now it shone like new. The Virgo in the middle had its wings removed of the past colouring by the Hermes and Maui kids. The Cancer looked better than ever. The Aires statue was moved back to its proper place, underneath the Virgo flying above everything. The Taurus statue, thank the gods, was back to its normal self instead of a bull with a balloon next to it saying ‘I’m GAY!!!’. The Dog was back to its wolf form, instead of the weird cartoon puppy. The peacock was more glorious than before.
“The statue always cleanses itself after a new camper comes. But this is different. The whole statue is restored”. Alex turned to face Ash, whose hair did indeed look like ash. “You do know the history of it, right?”
“Once upon a time,” Alex started. “There was a war between the pantheons. And in the war was Glory. The first one. She fought thousands of people, killed hundreds of thousands, and she was a rogue. She took orders from Hades.
“Hades knew that the war had to stop. So Glory did it, with the help of the Zodiacs, and her closest friend, Alex.
“The details of how they did it was lost to history, but then, in the ruins, Glory spurred life. The Zodiacs used the life to create the camp. And Glory ruled the citadel ever since, taking in demigods from all pantheons.
“To honour the zodiacs, Glory built the statue.” Alex could recite the story from heart. “And the pantheons have been at peace ever since.”
Alex looked at Ash, a satisfied look on his face.
“You missed something. Where’s the part with Tartarus?”
“I-I never learned that part.” Suddenly he remembered. Tartarus was the giant that Glory defeated with a son of Tyr. And Glory never forgave herself after that.
He realized it. He was the incarnation of the Alex in that story.
