My job was repetitive, but not boring. Sometimes I was assigned encrypted messages in Esperanto which I gladly worked on. I would spend hours, days, and weeks solving those messages. I was never an excellent cryptographer, but rather decent. The best moments I had were spent working as a contractor in Luxuria City. I remember my hotel had a kitchen, but I preferred going to the HorseShoe casino and play poker. The more I played, the more VIP points I would collect, and I could exchange them for meals and other prizes!
I became a good poker player, good, but not an ace. One day I caught some unwanted attention when I was heard speaking Esperanto with a tourist who came to play. The tourist was very happy and laughing out loud while chatting with me. From the second floor I was being watched by a pit boss, who had a bodyguard on both, his right and left side.
"That guy", he pointed at me, "what is he up to?"
"Nothing, he's a frequent player that comes 4 times a week. On average he plays 5 hours a day, profiting $110 per day, without cheating or causing problems," replied one of the guards.
"He's speaking with a foreigner. Find out which languages he can speak. He seems outgoing and he might be what we need to mix things a little bit at, The Big Game," he ordered the body guards.
"Yes, sir!"
Half hour passed by as I kept playing, two men approached me, one of them pat my shoulder and told me, "young man, our boss has invited you to, Adonis' game room. We noticed you are a likeable regular; moreover, you can speak Esperanto. The language of choice at Adonis'. "
"Umm, thanks, but I have never heard of Adonis' game room; besides, I'm only bankrolled to play at the $200 buy-in tables."
"Don't worry. You have been chosen as the, wildcard, in today's game. Wildcards are staked in favor of the house and split the risk."
"Please follow us. Our boss doesn't like to be left waiting," the other man told me as he tapped my arm gently.
"Wait, what about my money on the table?" I said nervously.
"Don't worry. When you're with us, no one will steal from you."
I followed them to the end of the poker room, where a pulley automated elevator laid next to the door that leads to the kitchen. To access this elevator, a special card-key was required; which one of the body guards pulled from his suit. The elevator was heading to the underground floor. The elevators found outside the poker room, near the table games and roulette, don't have a button indicating an underground floor exists at all. The door opened, there were many chandelier floor-lamps around, a red carpet with many decorations, and paintings of people that are unknown to me hanging on the mahogany walls. We walked towards a big steel door which was carved and painted with family shields.
