Author/illustrator Erik Thurman is an award-nominated creator who specializes in comics journalism and nonfiction comics about current political and social issues. He is based in Seoul, Korea.
Erik’s comics have made appearances in The Nib, The Guardian, Medium, First Look Media, The Melton Prior Institut, Oxford University, University of the West of England, Mingjing News, and World Comics India, among other print and digital publications.
He has investigated political kidnappings of university students in the Philippines, covered economic inequality and protests in China, worked as a teacher in a South Korean orphanage to illuminate neoliberal policies in education, reported on migrant labor abuse and modern-day slavery in Qatar and India, and depicted scenes of mass genocide in West Myanmar, in addition to other current events.
He has also been shortlisted for a Reportager Award in the past for his work with his graphic memoir trilogy, The American Immigrant. He is a member of the Authors Guild.
His hobbies include hiking, drinking coffee, and fighting corruption.
