Hi everyone! We are thrilled to announce our latest comic contest! This is a fun opportunity to show off your creativity and talent. We are super excited for this because we have partnered with Clip Studio Paint, the popular digital drawing and painting software/app that provides users with the perfect tools to create illustrations and comics.

About contest

For this contest, we are asking you to create your own 4-koma style comic with the theme, “an artist’s life.” What do you experience as an artist? What are your highs or lows? What does your daily routine as an artist look like? We want to know!

A 4-koma style comic is a traditional 4-panel mini-comic, typically the same size, and usually incorporates a single joke or a self-contained story. Click here for an example. We are providing you with a template, but you are more than welcome to create your own.

To create your comic, you can use any software program of your choice or print out the provided template and scan your artwork. And because we would like for as many people as possible to be able to participate in this, we will also be issuing out a 2-month trial license for Clip Studio Paint for those who currently don’t have access to a program or for anyone who would love to simply try out Clip Studio Paint for free (because why not?)

How to access Clip Studio Paint trial

If you would like to take advantage of this free 2-month trial, all you need to do is provide us with your full name and email address associated with your Tapas account. Please send your information to artcontest@tapasmedia.co with the subject line, “Clip Studio Paint Trial Request.”

How to Enter

1. Create your vertical 4-panel comic.

1. For digital artists:

1. Please stick to 4 panels only (traditional 4-koma style)

2. Submissions should be JPEG files no more than 1200px wide

3. No PDF, TIFF, PSD or other - JPEG only, please.

2. For traditional artists:

1. Try to print out the provided template or use rulers to define the 4-koma panels clearly

2. Inks are preferred, but pencils are fine if clean and dark enough

3. Scan artwork or take a very clear, well-lit photo but please resize so that it is no more than 1200px wide at the most.

4. JPEG only - no PDF or TIFF, etc.

2. Send your masterpiece to artcontest@tapasmedia.co with the subject line “4-Koma Contest.” Please include your Tapas profile/account in the body of the email.

The submission period will run for 3 weeks.

• Start date: April 2, 2018

• End date: April 23, 2018 (11:59PM PST)

How will the winners be chosen and what’s the prize?

Tapas will choose the Top 25 contestants. The Top 25 contestants’ comics will then be posted to a Facebook Album where each Top 25 contestants’ comic will earn points through the following voting system:

Likes = 1 points

Unique Comments (limited 1 comment per person, per comic) = 2 points

Shares = 5 points

The voting period will run for 1 week.

• Start date: April 25, 2018 (5:00PM PST)

• End date: May 2, 2018 (5:00PM PST)

Top 3 contestants with the highest points will receive the following prizes:

• 1st place winner = Will be issued a Clip Studio Paint Ex license ($219 value).

• 2nd & 3rd place winners = Will each be issued a Clip Studio Paint Pro license ($49.99 value).

The Top 25 will also be featured in a Staff series on Tapas.

Winners will be announced May 4, 2018!
