When trying to lose weight, do not always believe foods marked "light" or "low-fat." While they may have reduced calories or fat when compared to the regular version of the same food, they are often still very unhealthy. The only way to be sure an item is within your diet is to read the nutrition information on the label.
When embarking on a weight loss journey, especially a significant one, set multiple small goals instead of focusing on the main goal. It is much more daunting to think about losing 50 pounds in 6 months than it is to focus on losing 10 pounds in one month. By choosing the smaller goal, in 6 months you will have lost 60 pounds instead of 50.
A great way to lose weight is to pick up the phone and call a friend every time you're feeling hungry. If you phone a friend whenever you feel hungry you'll distract yourself, and you'll suddenly lose the urge you had to eat something. Your friends won't mind knowing they're helping you also.
Try to fit as much exercise as possible into your day. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Stand instead of sitting and if possible, walk instead of stand. Pacing can be very helpful. Fidgeting has been shown to help with weight loss, as well. Jiggle your foot, tap your toes and drum your fingers. It may not seem like much, but it adds up quickly!
