A Duckling's First Swim

A Duckling's First Swim

A Duckling's First Swim

Jul 21, 2026

Once there was a little duckling named Becky. She lived with her loving mother. It always intrigued her that her mother looked nothing like her; she didn't have wings nor flaps on her feet. But she didn't really care about her mother's appearance. She did a great job taking care of her and that was more than enough.

Today was a very special day for little Becky; after all, she was going swimming for the first time ever. Naturally, she was really excited! Her mother had readied a little pond of water with some leaves, grass, and moss scattered on top of it. Now, Becky was even more excited to taste all the yummy greens, so, without thinking, she jumped in the water unexpecting of what was going to happen, and suddenly, found herself surrounded with water from all directions. She panicked and flapped her feet and wings in the water trying to gain back her balance, all while she was screaming for help. She expected to feel her mother's hand picking her up from down beneath her, but instead, she heard her mother shouting words she didn't fully understand but felt really encouraging. She tried to calm down and find her balance, and with some determination, she was successful! Her head was finally on top of the water, and her feet were under it, flapping slowly to keep her aloft. She was so happy and proud of herself, and so was her mother who was cheering joyfully.

Becky continued swimming to reach all the food that was on the water. She ate every single speck until the water was completely clear. After all that, she felt full, but so tired, and her mother clearly noticed since she picked her out of the water on her hands. Becky climbed up to her mother's shoulder and started dosing of, not realizing that she was covered with moss from the first dive, and was getting all the wet mess on her mother. But her mother didn't mind at all, instead, she chuckled lightly, then, with a soothing voice said the line she always says before the duckling goes to bed every night:

"Good night little Beck Beck. Sweat dreams"

This is just a short story I wrote for school one time. I personally like it and wanted to share it with others! I hope you enjoy it too :)
