Be really careful what you wish for!
The sunlight illuminated a small room filled with books. The books were not organized but just stacked. As the night fell, the room was enveloped in darkness.
May just sat there, thinking. She was alone. Her parents passed away last year and now she was all alone. She had a debt that chased her like a lover. And also a job that didn't want to leave her.
She was flattered but she wanted to say, it's not you, it's me.
May sighed. She became the person she didn't want to be. She became a person who sighed a lot.
Her mother always told her.
"Laugh but don't sigh. You look like my grandma."
Now May had never met that grandma but she could feel her mother's words now. Sighing took away her energy.
What else was she supposed to do now?
She was in a glass box where she could see the world moving. But her glass box made her stagnant. She felt alone and sad.
When her parents were alive, she wasn't this sad. Yes, she was still working the same job and everything was the same. But she had a family then.
Now, she had nothing.
She felt tired of facing everything. Lonely.
Maybe life was like this. You lived in the past more often than you do in the present. Sometimes future is a past that you insist on not feeling.
Maybe her thinking was spiraling, so her mind decided to signal her.
She was hungry.
May finally got up and turned on the lights. This was a rental apartment more like a room. Her previous home was a home but this was not.
It was a pity she had to sell that. It wasn't her decision. Her parents did that. They seem to know exactly what to do. And she was still hoping someday she would get that superpower.
Sometimes her thoughts amused her. Good decision-making superpower. Everyone needed that.
She saw there were no vegetables to cook. That left only one option. Takeout. But considering the price-to-value ratio, she decided to go out and buy vegetables.
She didn't want to eat a week's worth of money at once. That would set her back a month in terms of savings.
As she locked her apartment and went out, she still kept thinking.
What was her dream? Was it to become a painter, designer, or something else? Why couldn't she remember? She just couldn't figure out what she wanted to do with herself.
Where did she know that life would give her a turning point?
So she just kept dancing on the lines not knowing that somewhere some wish-granting god was listening to her.
It's really funny that God grants you your wish when you least expect it.
Unexpected, surprising, and life-changing.
May stood on the sidewalk waiting for the incoming traffic to pass before crossing the road not knowing that there was a person in the car she just passed by, wished the same thing she wanted.
There was a car that was parked before a drugstore. It was owned by Jake Collins, a renowned singer. Jake sat in the car with his eyes closed, thinking.
Let's talk about Jake before going into what is happening in the story. Jake is a very famous singer. Who didn't know him? A beloved singer by all teens and adults. Even the senior members loved him. Why? He debuted when he was just thirteen. He grew up in the eyes of his fans.
Now twenty-seven, he was still their most beloved singer.
Jake looked outside the car with irritation in his eyes.
"Jake, listen to me. Don't take those comments to heart. Those are just some haters saying stuff. You have your fans. Work for them. Take that hate and fuel it to make yourself good."
His manager Elsa sat beside him looking at his practice video.
She was right. And those haters were also right.
He couldn't dance. He could sing but not dance. He could maybe be a normal bad dancer and it would be okay.
But he was a top singer and he was suddenly expected to be awesome. A real dancer. His fans loved him no matter how bad he danced.
But the haters had a field day when they found him fumbling.
This was a product of fame. Your involuntary actions are also magnified in the public eye.
He tugged at his hair in an attempt to calm himself.
Yes, he couldn't dance. So what? Why was that eroding his sense? He couldn't be good at everything. And his fans weren't disappointed in him. That's all he wanted, right?
But not exactly?
His label wanted him to be the best. So they had him taking classes and that was irritating him.
"I want to focus on my album."
He finally managed to let it out.
"Do that."
Elsa answered.
"It's not gonna have any dancing stuff. I just want it to be artistic. And president-"
He trailed off.
Because of boy bands, their label was also experimenting. And he was chosen as a senior member to become a mentor. And what good of a mentor would he be if he wasn't proficient in dancing and singing?
"I will tell you again. Jake, it's always good to learn a skill. Maybe not for this program but maybe in the future, you would want to make a song with the dancing theme. Why regret then if you could learn now?"
Yeah, why regret it later?
Why was he strongly opposed to this now? Why did he strongly reject and resist this matter?
Why?
He had a perfect life, right? Whatever he wanted was delivered to him. He had awesome fans who left him heartwarming messages every day.
He had a manager who was like a mother more than his real mother.
He was rich. Money problems didn't exist for him. And his job was his dream. He worked with what he loved.
Then what was he missing?
Jake turned his attention to the surrounding people. He saw a family in the car on the right and some pedestrians on the left.
"How nice it would be if I could be a normal guy who could decide his own life?"
He thought. Yeah, he did what others decided. That was the problem.
At the same time, there was another wish. May wished for something too at the exact moment.
"What if I had a purpose in my life? A nice job that could pay my debts faster and a dream that I could live for?"
May also arrived at the same destination Jake had arrived. She knew what she would like. They wanted a different life and wished for that.
And at that exact moment, a god smiled and granted the two different yet similar wishes.
