A Devil Doesn't Bargain

Prologue

Prologue

Jun 06, 2024

Angels have always existed in Ethearia, healing tormented souls and bringing hope to people in their darkest moments. These divine beings coexisted with humans, playing a vital role in building and establishing the foundation for civilization. Kingdoms and empires prospered, and life flourished.

However, a few hundred years ago, a new threat emerged from the shadows - demons. These nasty creatures ravaged Ethearia with Hellfire, engulfing and destroying everything in their path. As the populations of other beings dwindled, the demons began to rebuild and reshape the planet according to their dark desires. Villages and towns were reduced to rubble, and new cities emerged from the ashes. From the still-smoldering ruins of the old world arose new and strange plants. Eventually, the angels were wiped out entirely.

Miraculously, animals and other wildlife survived and quickly adapted to the rapid changes in their environment. Humans, however, were not so fortunate. The demons captured and tortured them, tearing families apart and forcing the remaining free souls into hiding, forming packs and scattering themselves across the globe.
At this point, it was common knowledge that if you were unfortunate enough to be caught by a demon, you were never heard from again. It was best to assume you'd be dead if you weren't an alpha or a nice-looking beta. The more powerful your sub-gender was, the more you would be worth to a demon.

The human population could be divided into four subgroups. Alphas, Betas, Deltas, and Omegas. Alphas, the preferred gender at the time, made up 15% percent of the population. They were by far the most powerful and could produce and smell pheromones. Betas made up the next 35%. They could mate with Alphas, unlike the 45% of the population known as Deltas. Betas and Deltas were considered the normal and most common subgroups since neither could produce or smell pheromones. The last remaining 5% of the population was known as Omegas. Omegas were the weakest subgroup, causing them to struggle in civilization. They could produce and smell pheromones and mate with anyone, making them easy targets for demons across the planet.

Due to the rapid decline of the human species, all subgroups became smaller, making Alpha's less common and more valuable while Omegas were nearly wiped out entirely. If an Omega was unfortunate enough to be caught, it could effortlessly bring fortune to its captors. However, there was no need to worry since an Omega hadn't been born into human civilization for centuries... right?
