All my life I've considered myself a pretty normal guy, sure my names a little weird, it's Lemon for God's sake, but other than that I'm a pretty average Joe. I go to school, I come home and play video games or maybe pick up a book, eat something unhealthy, then head to bed at an unreasonable hour. The cycle starts again the next day. I'm kind of quiet though, I have a few good friends but other than them I really don't talk to other people that much. That's probably why I don't really argue with other people or get into fights, which most would consider a good thing.
Sadly we all have that one person, the one that, no matter how hard you try, you just can't seem to get along with, or even tolerate. The person who knows how to press all of your buttons. The one thing they seem to love most in the world is seeing you blow up right in front of them. When you have to be around this person it's a constant struggle to not punch them in the face every 2 seconds.
My person is the one and only Carter Keyes.
Carter is what you might call a... what's the word for it again? Ah yes, asshole, he's a massive asshole. I've known of Carter since kindergarten, he's a legendary prankster and everyone in school knew his name even if they had never met him. It was rumored that the kid had been pulling stunts and pranks on teachers and students alike since he had been enrolled in school. However, I only officially met him in the last year of middle school.
It had been a normal Thursday afternoon when we ran into each other in the hallway. School had already let out that day but I'd stayed after to study in the library, I wasn't the best student at times but no one could say I didn't try. When I was leaving I'd caught some red-headed kid bent over and spray painting a teacher's door with bright yellow paint. The door belonged to Ms. Capaldi, probably the most feared women in the state, there was only one person who would dare to defile her door, Carter Keyes. For a minute I thought of telling the janitor, but then I decided against it. I'd heard what happened to kids who tried to snitch on him, they always ended up getting expelled or worse, and I wasn't in the mood to be kicked out of school because I was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. So I attempted to sneak by unnoticed. I'd had hoped he wouldn't see me and I could slip away without having him call me out, but I was out of luck. Just as I was turning in the other direction he saw me out of the corner of his eye.
Carter called out to me and told me who he was (like I already hadn't figured that out), and made me swear I wouldn't tell anyone it was him who had done it, I'd agreed to not say anything, I wasn't a rat and I didn't want to get beat up or worse expelled. It had seemed like he was going to take it easy on me. I thought that would be the end of it. Boy was I wrong.
Since that fateful day, Carter has been hanging around me every chance he gets, teasing me about every single thing he can think of, my long blonde hair, which he said made me look like emo Goldilocks, my brown eyes which he compared to a cows, my short stature, my lack of any athletic ability and, of course, my name.
He even started hanging out with my small group of friends, making sure to keep the teasing to a minimum around them. Once they had accepted him my chances of ever dropping the guy disappeared. Carter Keyes had become a thorn in my side that I wasn't going to get rid of anytime soon.
It seriously pissed me off.
