The office around her was silent, saved for the faint hum of the city below and the steady ticking of the grand clock that dominated the room.
Senka Yuzahara leaned against the polished mahogany desk, her eyes fixed on the papers that her father had left. Each document carried a weight that felt heavier than her own shoulders could bear.
Her father’s voice, smooth and unquestioning, echoed in her mind: “You are the successor. Everything depends on you, Senka.”
She glanced up at the man himself, sitting in his high-backed chair, his gaze soft but unseeing. Not blindness of the body, she thought, but blindness of the mind. The rose coloured glasses loves brings.
Lily, her stepmother, smiled faintly beside him, the kind of smile that never reached her eyes. They had married in less then a few months after, Senka's mother passed away. Suicide hanged by the necklass of rope.
“You understand the stakes” Her father his voice deep and, stern though it was Lily’s approval he sought. Senka nodded.
Lace, her younger sister, hovered near the doorway, looking uneasy.
Senka as she walked out noticed Lace standing there lost in thought. She doesn’t know not yet at least, Senka thought.
The Yuzahara family had been in a recent scandal, whispers crawling through the boardrooms and trading floors. A secret merger, one that could reshape the entire industry. The industy their empire her, father and family had spend building for generations.
Senka’s thoughts where wild, racing to worst case scenario. Every word her father spoke, every approving glance Lily threw him, was a trap she had to navigate, and one that could cost her dearly and, Senka she needed help.
In their world, status and, cunninggness was everything. A family of primal hunters, as her father once praised. It now, faced by scandal, with their competions preying on each vulnerability. For Senka, it was clear she needed and ally one powerful enough, to outsmart everyone.
