This isn’t your usual type of superhero teen fiction novella.
This is one from the point of view of a nerd-turned-hero and how it all contradicts everything that you usually read in comic books or what you watch on television or at the movies. Now, let me make one thing very clear to you guys. I usually don’t do this type of thing, telling my story and how it led me to where I am today. Still, I understand that what was written in stone cannot be made void by anyone. And so, here I am.
And let me make one more thing very clear to you all because I am only going to repeat this story once. What happened to me in the past several months is still beyond me to this very day ever since I moved from my simple yet rambunctious town of Cedar Valley, Texas to the mysterious craziness that is Crystal Pointe, California since my parents (my mom’s an accountant while Dad’s a top attorney) thought it would be good for me to have a change a scenery since my trauma (more on that later). I usually don’t do this type of thing on account of these three facts: I still consider myself a confessed introverted black nerd (yep, Black folks can be nerds too. Stop stereotyping, folks); these new friends of mine still think I’m their choice for their clique (more on that later too, just hold on); and despite everything, I still survived it all- the good, the bad, and the very ugly with everything else in between.
But I digress.
Readers, I understand that this is not some superhero novel you like to read. But here me out. There’s going to be a lot of secrets, unexpected surprises, and you’ll even know what it’s like to be in my shoes. I’m actually dedicating this to anyone who is known to be the unlikeable wallflower at school, the one who is talented and yet misunderstood because of one’s past. This is also for the bullied, the nerds who are overlooked for top positions at the extracurricular activities, and to anyone who is tired of being pushed around. In short, if you or someone you know is a nerd and if you like the absurd and rooting for the wallflower who gets the shock of a lifetime while reading about the unexpected, then you are welcome to proceed. So pull up a chair, grab your favorite drink (Coca-Cola or Dr. Pepper if you’re representing the Southeast), and get ready for a wild tale.
My name is Xavier Bryshere Reeves, a nerd among heroes. And this is my story.
