"I swear, if you remove the brim once again, I'll curse you."
"Ha, I'm telling grandmother!"
"Kids, go call your sister Emma, I'll teach crochet hats today!"
Emma was trying to sleep on her counter by ignoring the loud sounds around her. It was what happened every day here. Because her grandmother taught them hat-making, and the daily classes were somewhat boring now, even if she was the only one who knew the ancient art of Magical hat-making. It was something her grandmother had taught her, apparently. Her grandmother had lost her parents, and Emma had too, and the cycle repeated with her..
"Emma, quit sleeping. We have a very urgent order. The class of Summer's summer coven is graduating, we need to make hats!" Her grandmother called her.
Emma groaned. She rubbed her temple and walked towards her sewing machine. She didn't use magic to make her hats. She preferred a hands-on approach, and that's why it took her a really long time to make hats. But now, she was going to get her crochet hook and yarn.
"Okay, you guys are ready, let's start!"
They surrounded their grandmother and watched her.
"As you know how to crochet, I'll tell you how to add magic to each loop and stitch."
"Grandmother, why can't we just add magic when the hat is complete?" Romy asked her.
"Dear, that way, magic won't attach to each part of the yarn. Now, if you want to make a good hat, you can add magic later, but if you want a hat that's excellent, never skip stitch and magic."
Emma wasn't concerned; she couldn't add magic to any stitch yet, she was just there to listen, and that's why she mostly sold her hats to humans.
The class went on for an hour, and when Sylvie had had enough, she started yawning. Her cousins were great at breaking up classes.
Their grandmother observed each of them and finally ended the class, "Now, off you go. I'll continue this tomorrow." She went back to her workshop to work on the coven's hats, leaving them to talk and fight.
Emma once again hurried to her counter to slack off.
"You need to own up to your magic; otherwise, you won't be able to earn money."
"Romy, I know."
Romy glanced at Emma with confusion in his eyes, "And you aren't working hard yet?"
Emma shrugged.
"Let's see, Romy. I'm trying to find my way."
Romy glanced at Sylvie and sighed.
"I guess I'll have to become the matriarch, uh, no, patriarch, and take care of my two clueless cousins."
Sylvie slapped him on his back.
"You say that once you can make a hat independently."
Yes, none of them could make hats by themselves yet. Their grandmother always gave a finishing touch; the magic was imbued, and the hat became magical then.
"Excuse me, can I get a custom order here?"
Three heads turned to the door, and two of them gasped. It was Romy and Emma. Sylvie wasn't fazed at the appearance of a handsome man in their magic shop.
"Yes, handsome, what do you want? I'll make a hat for you." Romy gave him a big smile.
The guy with a sparkle in his eyes smiles at them, and the charm wasn't lost on any of them.
@projecthybrid told me that this sotryline was nice in my comic World of Letters where the words WITCHY and SHIFTER cosplay Emma and the handsome stranger, haha. WHAT DO YOU THINK?
