Afterlife-2

Intro

Intro

Mar 16, 2023

A young man sits in the black abyss he was condemned to. He had once been an ambitious man. One who acted out of family, power, and righteousness. He’d tried to be a god, and everyone, even his own sister, had thrown him out for it.

His red hair waved without any wind. The cool sand beneath his feet seemed to try and pull him into the ground. The man’s prison was curious to him. He didn’t need to eat or drink, which was fortunate because he was the only living thing there. He didn’t age. He didn’t grow. He didn’t die. He was frozen in time.

They banished him to a place beyond even their sights. They figured he was gone from all existence, but nobody could do that. He wasn’t gone from the universe, but he was outside of any life or death. His magic wasn’t strong enough to get back to being alive or dead, so he was trapped forever.

One thing the man was powerful enough to do though was look. Not at his surroundings though; there was never anything of interest around him. Instead, he looked at his home using all his accumulated power. He’d watch loved ones, people he despised, and sometimes the occasional person who would catch his eye. He thought it was ironic, his home being in sight, almost close enough to touch, but he would never be able to get back. Occasionally the hairs on his neck would stand on end like someone was creeping up behind him, but he would snap out of his trance to find that he was still alone.

One day the young man, huddled in his tattered trench coat, wondered what was beyond his home. So he looked beyond his home, beyond life and death, beyond anything to look for another method of escape. Instead, he found something much more daunting.

It was his home again, but unlike how he remembered. It was like looking at a familiar image with a weak pair of glasses. Everything was fuzzy and off. People were missing or rearranged. Familiar faces had completely flipped how they would normally act. Some were so knocked off the course of what he knew that they were almost unrecognizable.

Curious and without many options, the red-haired man took a seat in the sand and did what he’d been doing for the last century.

He watched.
