Alice Laguarja. Everyone sees her as the most peculiar not just in school but also inside and outside of her home.
"Mom, I'm going outside," Alice said as she walks through the door with a face you can't read.
"No, you won't, sweetie. It's raining outside! Can't you see?" Alice's mom said as she pointed at the window while sitting in a couch. And yeah, there is no wind but the rain is pouring with enthusiasm.
Alice looked at where her mom pointed at and answered, "That's why I have to be outside."
Her mother's forehead went in a knot. "Why?"
Alice thought of the same thing. Why does she have to be outside despite of the rain? It's three o' clock in the afternoon and she just woke up from a nap. And the first thing she thought when she saw it's raining outside is she have to go. But as to why, she doesn't know. She just feel like going. And not doing what she wants to do make her restless for the rest of the day. So she decided to go. She tried so hard to think of a reason that her mother could accept but lying is never part of the option. But that't won't solve her mother's question which is she wants to be answered truthfully as well.
"I just..." she started but instead of finishing her words, she went near the window and feel the coldness of the glass while looking outside.
Her mother, on the other side, is looking at Alice intently. Another puzzling moment as a mother of this child with which speaks and acts differently than most people of her age. It's not the first time that Alice acted this way. When Alice was just four. She would ask her father to let her ride on his shoulder. Of course, her father would agree. But as times pass by, she still ask that kind of favor every now and then. Until she hit seven years old she stopped doing that. One time, Alice's mother asked her why does she likes riding her father's shoulder.
And she would answer, "Hm, I don't know. But let me think about it, Mom." And Alice would look at her father intently as if looking for an answer. And then turn back to her mother and say, "I think it's because I love looking at the world with Dad's eyes. You know, when I'm at Dad's shoulders, it's like I'm seeing the world with his eyes and it's really cool."
Alice's mother was remembering that memory when the current sixteen years old Alice finally answered as she look outside. "It's just... the world becomes a different place when it's raining. I wanted to witness it. Of course, I've seen it more than I could count but I'm still fascinated. Why are we avoiding the rain when it shows us a different kind of the world we live in? I think I love this world when it rains."
Alice finally turns to her mother to find out her mother is holding an umbrella with a smile she couldn't understand. "Okay, you can go only if you use this umbrella."
"I will. Thanks, Mom," she said with a small smile. She went to the front door and open it. She wonders, what kind of view she could see in a rainy world? Is it going to be good? Or is it bad? Will it be happy? Or maybe sad?
