The night is young. The moon shone bright in the cloudless night; bringing shadows to life. Everything was silent except the singing of the cicadas or the whooshing of the midnight wind. The leaves of trees ruffled in its wake and seemingly, nothing can break the serenity.
Thump!
“Ah!!!”
Well, maybe except that.
“That hurts!”
The night was young, but for some; it’s time has yet to begin…The stranger was walking along the wall, feeling for the lights. After a few moments, the electricity flickered on. In the white house was a single man. The man looked behind him. Pitch black fringes bounced on his head. Cold sharp eyes glared at the inanimate object.
This is Zed, and he is not happy.
“Who the W-why is this table here!”
He was answered with silence. With a big sigh, he rubbed his eyes and made his way over to the kitchen. As the tap water was running, Zed looked at the window facing the outside darkness; all he saw was himself. A man with jet black hair, ivory skin adorned with handsome features.
Rolling his eyes, Zed turned off the tap and drunk the water. After downing the cup; Zed's face cringed in disgust
“Geeh! This world’s water tastes nasty!” lamented the raven haired creature.
But he went on for a second cup of water anyway. Then he headed for window, overlooking the town. The streets looked like a network of rivers lined with lights, illuminating the concrete buildings. The plethora of lights gave the city an air of ambiance; however, these lights stole the beauty of the new moon shining bright in the sky.
As the wind ruffled the trees surrounding the house, Zed recalled his journey here.
-----------
“I have to do what?!”
“ Well, it’s either that or you partner up with Kevin on his trip to Jova. Isn’t that right Asai?” calmly voiced a man with golden hair in a pure white suit.
“ Why are you asking me? You’re the chair of H-Company. Do your own errands for once. And no, Kevin already has a partner to Jovinia--Jo-vin-ia, say it right for once. ”
“ Ah, alas, even my own subordinate has succumb to the fever, let us give him our condolences” Falsely cried the president.
“ I’m still here.” glared Zed as he leaned over the pristine marble desk. Grabbing at the collar of the executive.
As the two continued bickering at each other, the younger intern stood by the door. His face was filled with indignation and before he spoke he felt a hand on his shoulders.
“Good evening, I see that the president and VP are at it like usual. My name is Maria and I’m here to show you where you’ll be stationed at. Do you have any questions?” voiced a beauty in the room. With silver locks her hair framed her slender and gentle face. Silver wings adorned her back and caressed her form.
“...”
“ Perfect, now let’s go before those two start a war within the office again.”
“ A-again? Are they always like that?”
“ Yes, unfortunately yes; but they do have their moments.” commented Maria. Maria was leading the intern out before she had overheard some shocking news.
“ If you have so much time shopping online, then you might as well use that time to do something useful with yourself; like filling out all these files. I should get twice the vacation time for the amount of work I do around here.” mumbled Zed as he pinched the bridge of his nose in annoyance.
“ Oh wonderful idea! Indeed I am teaching you well. What say you a vacay? How about I sent you to Midland; Ooh or Topive, or maybe even Drachim! Ooh yes! I hear the drinks there are to die for!” Rambled the President.
“...I didn’t really mean.”
“Even better, you can be fill in our newest position of ambassador for Midland!”
“...”
[end of flashback]
The cup exploded in his hands as he was reminded of a certain person. Zed felt the anger rise up and heated his eyes, however, it quickly went away as he took a deep breath. As his lungs filled with air, Zed choked and coughed.
He was not yet used to the setting of the world. Everything is a lot lighter and he feels that if he puts too much power in his steps he will shoot off the surface. And the air is a lot lighter, in fact, it’s a little too light. Zed feels the need to take breaths in smaller increments until his body system gets used to the atmosphere. Hence his pounding headache.
Zed silently watches the scenery from his balcony. The hills morphed into mountains that surround the glowing-breathing city below. Listening to the silent whisper from forest that surrounds him.
He then turns to the palm of his hand where the shattered glass had cut his skin. The forest whispers and he can feel every fiber stitch back together. After a few seconds it was like nothing had ever happened at all. All that’s left are the small splotches of blood and a trail of crimson liquid that collected on his fingertips.
With a sigh he made his way inside, and cleaned up. Not long after that he laid in bed and closed his eyes once again. Finally, succumbing to sleep.
--------
Knock! Knock! Knock!
“Urgh…”
Knock! Knock! Knock!
“Mmmn….”
Knock! Knock! Knock!
“Fine! I’m coming….” Yelled Zed.
Pulling the blankets close around him he waddled out the dim bedroom. He made his way out to the door and cracked it open, and grumbled a small greeting.
“~~go away~~”
“Good morning!!! I know this may sound a little sudden but I’m going to be watching over you in your time staying here in Midland! The first call in this occasion would be that I introduce you to the citizens of Misotopia! So I will be at this place today, if you have anytime just stop on over. Preferably at one!”
“So...what's your-”
“I will catch you later friend! Make sure dress up nice too!”
“Name…..like hell am I going to dress nice...rude people waking me up...crazy..” grumbled Zed as he went back to his bedroom and curled up on his mattress.
-------
A few hours later Zed found the sanity to wake up. Popping his head out from his cocoon of blanket, he squinted at the digital clock.
“10:26….” With a final grunt he wormed his way into the bathroom.
A long hot shower later, he wiped the condensation off the mirror. This figure was surrounded by massive dripping wet wings. His damp wings shook, trying to dry the soaked feathers. In its wake was a mess of fluffy midnight blue feathers; accentuating his almond skin tone. Giving it a shimmering finish.
After he brushed his teeth, he walked out shirtless with his sweatpants into his wide backyard. He stretched his body and along with, his wings fanned out wide. It spanned out two arms lengths away from his body and gave a very small flap. His arms were up high, stretching his lean and toned torso.
After a few more stretch exercises, he decided to go drink a cup of coffee and put on a shirt.
A cup of hot coffee later, he saw the business card of the strange lady on the counter and with a sigh he got up off his seat.
He made his way to his room and slipped on an necklace. Then looking in the mirror once again; his large wings were gone. And he wore his jacket and walked out the door. It was 11:20 and he only had one destination in mind.
