Viola ran and kept running until she came to the lake covered in mist, where she stripped off her clothes and jumped into the blue water, welcoming the icy water’s prickliness. She just floated in the water until her body was numb to the pain of the water.
Getting out of the glacial water, she kept thinking of the wolf with misty wings that stared at her with immense pain and sadness that visited her in her dreams. The wolf was just a ghost, the first time she dreamt it; but as it approach Beltane, the wolf became more solid and displayed more human like qualities. As she ran back home through the mossy woods, she felt the wolf run beside her.
The night of Beltane came and the wolf turned into a paler human version of Viola. This Viola looked directly through her eyes into her soul and whispered “Save us.” After that human screams and animal screams filled the void left by the other Viola. Viola woke up in a sweat screaming to herself. Her parents rushed in and looked into their daughter’s eyes and saw fear and pain, pain and fear that made them feel helpless. All they could do was hug their shaking Viola to let her know she was loved and safe.
Waking up to the sun shining through the clouds, Viola went on her normal run, much to her parents’ objection. She just had to run, so her breathing and pounding heart can drown out the screams. Viola ran past the lake to the edge of the giant hole, where she just sat and listen to the life of the forest bounce of the hole's cliffs into the melody of life. The sound of untinted nature calmed and replaced the screams. Once she felt satisfied in the calm, she got up and turned around to run to the lake for a short swim. But she slipped and started falling towards the bottom of the hole. As she fell, the paler Viola appeared in her mind crying and apologizing, like the slip was her fault.
