Chapter 1: One Week Left

Chapter 1: One Week Left

Dec 14, 2021

August 13, 2021

Breathe in, Breathe Out, Breathe In, Breathe Out
Okay, time to check...

“We are sorry to inform you”...

‘We are reducing the amount”...

“Thank you for your application. However”...

“UGH!!!” I shouted as I fell onto my bed. What am I going to do?

“Shit. I am coming!!!! I quickly jumped off my bed and barreled downstairs, slightly wincing when I banged my leg on the banister. I then went to the kitchen, where my mother was shouting.

“I was calling you,” my mother sternly said.

“Sorry, I was looking at emails about my internship applications,” I said as I went to sit at the table.

“Anything?” My mom before she went back into the kitchen.

“Nope, two direct rejections and one about limiting the number of interns.” I huffed as I started to fiddle with my fork.

“That is too bad, but you got to remember even though there are vaccines and more places have been reopening, COVID is still a problem. Besides, maybe it is for the best since you start classes again next week you don’t need the added stress.” She said as she placed a plate of food in front of me.”

“Okay, mom,” I said in response. I then realized I didn’t grab a drink and went to the fridge.

“Where is your sister?” My mom said as she continued cooking.

“Hmm, last I checked, Julianne is doubling our water bill.”

“Huh?”

“She is reaching her second hour in the shower.”

“Ugh, and your brothers?”

“Lucas and Isaac were passed out on their beds, clutching their Playstation controllers with their game still playing on their TV. Before you ask, I took off their headphones and put their controllers away, and shut off their TV, and put blankets on them.”

“Oh, okay, I guess they will be eating later.”

“Mom, is the fact that the three of them usually don’t eat when your done cooking supposed to be surprising? I asked my mother as she always says the same thing when my siblings don’t come down to eat immediately after she is done cooking.”

“Enough with the sarcasm and go eat before the flies do.” She said in response, and I returned to eating.

After I cleaned my plate and wiped my spot on the table, I returned to my sister and I’s room. I began preparing my notebooks and other materials I needed for my upcoming classes. Next semester I graduate, so I should do my best to end on a high note. But how am I supposed to not stress out when in addition to the stuff I usually stress over, it is coupled with the world experiencing so many problems? Oh god, Minerva, don’t start freaking out again. Breath in, breath out, breath in, breath out. I repeated until my heart stopped rapidly racing. Maybe things will get better, and this semester will go smoothly. A thought that remained in my mind for the rest of the day.

Hello, this is my first time publishing a story. Since the middle of this year, I have been writing this story if you are curious about the dates at the beginning of the chapters. Any photo I use would be coming from Unsplash.

With the continuing pandemic, emotions such as stress, fear, and uncertainty have only amplified. Just ask Minerva Ramirez, an introverted fourth-year college student who is returning to in-person classes for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic. Unfortunately, her stress triples when she finds out that she was assigned to a large group for a project worth 35% percent of her grade for one of her courses. Will it be as dreadful as she assumes, or is she in for a surprise?

Warning: Beware this novel will contain mature language and go into mature/serious topics. I will put a warning at the beginning of each mature chapter.
