Chapter 1: Meeting Outside the Prison

Chapter 1: Meeting Outside the Prison

May 16, 2024

In the dim slammer, a bunch of guys in casual threads gathered round, some whistling, some yapping away, and a few just chillin'. Their eyes were glued to one spot.

"Dang! That dude really stepped in it with her. Asking for trouble, man!"

"That chick might look all sweet, but she's got a nasty streak. Them eyes colder than a polar bear's toenails. Wonder who raised her?"

"Look at her, meaner than a rattlesnake. Man, I'm staying clear of her. Don't wanna end up like that dude on the ground."

"Yeah, mess with her and you're in for a world of hurt."

Suddenly, this slim figure popped up, backlit by the light. Couldn't quite make out the details, but you could feel the menace oozing off her. Compared to her, the guy lying down was like a giant.

"Boom!" A loud bang as she grabbed a rock and smashed it on the guy's head. He let out a scream as blood flowed, turning the ground red. It was chilling, man.

Her hair was cropped short, showing off a smooth forehead, but her lips were cracked and pale. A scar slashed across her face from forehead to eye, giving her a fierce look. Her eyes gleamed with a ferocity that could freeze your soul. She grabbed a broken piece of porcelain, smashed it on the ground, and then stabbed the guy's hand without batting an eyelid.

"Ahh!" The guy's screams echoed as he passed out.

Once she was sure he was out cold, she got up, her face icy as she walked away.

"Dang! That guy's a goner! She's too ruthless."

Her crew chuckled nervously, warning each other to keep it down, lest she heard them and turned her wrath on them.

"Man, I'm just playin'! Ain't messin' with her!"

Most of them had felt her fury before. At first, they thought she was an easy mark, but boy were they wrong. She fought like a wildcat, breaking ribs without breaking a sweat. She'd built up quite a rep, and anyone who crossed her regretted it.

One time, some fool thought he could take advantage of her after she got her ribs cracked. But she surprised everyone by nearly gutting him. After that, nobody dared to mess with her. She was a force to be reckoned with.

It had been five years since she entered that hellhole, but now she was out, and she was out for revenge. She was gonna make those who wronged her pay, no matter what.

The next day, in a cramped, tidy room, a figure lay on a wooden bed, bathed in dim light. Her eyes were inscrutable, her lips tight. She gave off an aura of coldness, like she'd seen too much and felt too little.

"Sigh." A guard swung open the iron door. "Meng Zhan, your sentence is up. You're free to go."

As she stepped out of the slammer, Meng Zhan let out a sigh, hands in her pockets. Her face was half-hidden, but her eyes burned with determination. She was gonna set things right, no matter what it took.

Night fell, neon lights painting the streets in a rainbow of colors. A lone figure stood under the moonlight, face obscured by shadows. She gazed into the distance, eyes reflecting pain and anger.

Suddenly, a luxury car pulled up beside her, windows tinted black. A pair of dark, piercing eyes met hers, devoid of emotion. The man inside was impeccably dressed, exuding power and authority.

"Boss, seems like the car broke down," the driver said nervously.

"Send someone to fix it," the man replied in a voice cold as ice. He stepped out of the car, eyes fixed on Meng Zhan. She met his gaze head-on, eyes sharp as daggers.

Meng Zhan turned away, ignoring the curious glances from passersby. She felt a pang of regret thinking of her mom locked away in a loony bin because of her dad's betrayal. She wanted nothing more than to be by her side, but she was broke, with no resources. She was stuck in a nightmare of her own making.

As tears welled up in her eyes, Meng Zhan made a decision. She'd do whatever it took to set her mom free, even if it meant facing her demons head-on. And if anyone got in her way, she'd crush 'em without batting an eye.

"Yo, who dis?" The deep voice sounded just like the first time she met, her best buddy Han Xin.

Lips parted and closed, licked the dry lips, about to speak when suddenly a burst of noise came from the other end, she heard it loud and clear.

"Dr. Han, Mrs. Meng... jumped off...".

"What? How could this happen?"

The phone on the other end had already hung up, whooshing sounds echoing in her head, jumping off. Meng... Mrs.? Her mom... jumped off. In her mind, she always knew how strong her mom was. If not for... her, how could it end like this? Hands and feet freezing cold, Meng Zhan Yan, look at all this mess, it's all your fault. Eyes stinging red, no, she had to go over right away, get her mom out.

Hang up the phone, but she's broke now, how is she gonna come up with some cash? Just got out of jail, any regular person sees her record, they ain't gonna hire her, go to the underground car market? Unless they don't know her skills, bet on her? No way. And even if someone's willing to bet, it takes too much time. She ain't got that time. Eyes narrowed, she's gotta get some cash no matter what.

The fanciest joint in A City, luxurious yet orderly, waiters stationed at each private room, dressed not too revealing but flashy, each in a qipao, wrapping themselves up like high-end products.

"Mr. Gu, we're here."

Driver gets out, immediately opens the car door, standing respectfully on the side.

Gu Moxi gets out, elegant in a black suit, tall and straight figure, handsome face cold and stern, high nose bridge, thin lips, sharp and beautiful features, even in the simplest suit, he exudes different vibes, way better-looking than those so-called international models, standing out from the crowd, extraordinary aura.

"Mr. Gu, you've arrived." One of the average-built men hurried over, respectful and flattering: "It's so great that you could come, Mr. Gu Er is waiting for you in the private room."

"Lead the way!" Gu Moxi didn't say much, glanced at him, gesturing for him to lead the way.

Li Hu shrank his neck, immediately leading the way. Sure enough, the most prestigious man in A City, just one glance and it's hard to resist, this aura is simply unparalleled, no wonder how many women in Jing are dying to marry Mr. Gu, even if he ain't getting it up, with that handsome face, how many women are like moths to a flame. Seems like today, Mr. Gu Er is gonna make some moves, whether it works out or not, it's tonight, if it works out, he's gonna be a loyal servant of the Gu family!

Walking through the passage set up from the back, turning right, arriving at the door of the private room, Gu Moxi kicks open the door, there are only five people inside, Gu Mocheng is pouring a bottle of red wine, seeing his brother coming in, the lackeys run over, letting him in, the other few reflexively stand up, greeting him, asking how he's doing.

"Bro, come in quick, it's my birthday today, you can't just leave your little bro hanging here and leave by yourself." Gu Mocheng pulls him in, eyes rolling, plotting mischief. He knows if he doesn't say this, his bro will leave for sure.

Sure enough, Gu Moxi frowned, heard his words, and came in with him.

"Gu... big bro." One of the tall and thin men suddenly spoke up, just about to say something, Gu Moxi shot him a look, he immediately choked, his body shivered, swallowed his saliva, stuttering: "Gu... second bro..."

Gu Mocheng saw him stuttering in front of his bro, laughed and scolded: "Monkey, did you get your throat blocked by dung today? You're usually non-stop chattering, did you have a stroke?"

The others laughed.

"I think the monkey's throat really got blocked by dung." A burly man with an average face, but with trendy hair, made him look a few years younger. He usually didn't spare him his ridicule, now that he had the chance, he naturally had to take it.

"Get lost!" The monkey glared at them, feeling unjust in his heart. When his big bro came in just now, they didn't chatter like this, keeping their voices down. Strange thing is, these guys are usually fearless, not even afraid of their parents, but they're scared of Mr. Gu, maybe they got infected by Gu Er, in front of Mr. Gu, they're like mice hiding from a cat. If it wasn't for Gu Er repeatedly begging today, they wouldn't want to join in on the fun.

"Bro, try it, this is an '82 Lafite." Gu Er approached him with a flattering look, holding out a glass of red wine.

"Mo Cheng, you know I don't drink." Gu Moxi pushed away the glass in front of him, getting up to leave: "Today, I came to celebrate your birthday, alright, you guys carry on, I have something to attend to."

"Big bro, you also said today's my birthday, just have this one drink, will ya? Give your little bro some face, huh? Once you leave later, they'll laugh at me. I don't care, bro, you gotta finish this drink today, whether you like it or not, you ain't leaving until you finish it." Gu Mocheng had a face like a bitter melon, staring at him, not drinking means not leaving, this stance.

Gu Moxi glanced at him, Gu Mocheng's eyes narrowed, a hint of guilt flashed in his eyes, his bro usually sees through everything, hope he doesn't catch on this time! His eyes quickly glanced at the people around him.

The monkey caught on, swallowed his saliva, immediately said: "Gu... big bro, just give Chengzi some face, huh? Today is Chengzi's birthday!"

Gu Moxi squinted his eyes, the dim light shining on his face, his hard features becoming even more pronounced, handsome and perfect, every move graceful yet imposing: "Celebrating early?" He paused here for a moment, a sharp blade of sarcasm shot over, the faces of several people in the private room immediately turned pale, because his aura was too overwhelming, several people were gasping for breath, he continued: "Normally, celebrating your birthday is like carrying a knife, forcing you to the execution ground. Today, you say you want to celebrate your birthday early, do you think I'd believe that?"
