How long has it been since I jumped at moving shadows expecting my mother to have found me? What a joke... I live in the shadows yet I'm afraid of them Daebru shakes his head at himself as he looks down into the street below. A theature for the wealthy to come and laugh at the poor performers, it's heavy double doors keeping the sounds from outside muted as music hums against the inside. He shifts for maybe the hundreth time waiting for his mark to leave out the back door. A beautiful place to perhaps visit at a lat time, when I'm not trying to rid the world of people that will make the world worse. I'm not sure if the Order has oracles or if it's just a lot of digging into people to find out if they're bad, but I hope they're not wrong.
"I'm telling you Harvey, we're fine, there isn't a thing out here to be worrying about" a young woman, early twenties comes out in her flowing purple gown waving a hand in the air. She's escorted by a man in a high end red tunic with a feathered hat, plain tights, and knee high black boots. The mark ... but you're supposed to be alone...
"Darla, there's a lot you don't know about this world, you've barely lived in it. Trying to ruin your old man by running off with me is not a good idea at all" the man, Harvey, stops a few feet from the door turning to face the young woman, "Just go back in and enjoy the rest of the show, or let me walk you to your carriage and send you home. I don't want you wasting your life on me."
"But I want to be with you, I don-"
He silences her with a gentle kiss "Please, think more on this at least. I'm not going anywhere tonight, if you still wish to leave with me at the end of the week, I'll be glad to have your company, but not tonight, not like this" he taps her chin up, a blush visible in the dark light of the street.
He seems nice .. this can't be right ... but if I doubt now ... what else will be false from them? This is the man, short brown hair tucked under a feathered hat ... this has to be him, they said he'd leave early ... maybe the girl is an informant? That could be it. maybe she just lured him out for me, it's happened before, we're not told who all the players on the board are. Please don't let me be wrong...
Harvey and Darla walk down the street a bit, Daebru following along the roof of nearby buildings. The young woman looks upset leaving but Harvey whispers something to her that puts a smile on her face before she gets in the carriage and dissappears down the street. The sky fades to full night with Harvey standing on the side of the street watching the carriage fade away before he turns into an alley between the buildings. The man is taller and broader than Daebru, but this is what he's trained for.
Daebru drops down from the roof elbow hiting the back of the man's neck. Harvey scrambles forward, off balance looking for his assailant. A sweep of the legs and the bigger man lies flat on his back, "Someone wants you dead, Harvey," his voice young but confident rings out fromt the shadows, "The shadows are my domain," a dagger slices crossed the man's chest, "and you've wandered into them," two more glints as more blood spills onto the ground and Harvey scrambles to get up, "You can't run from death, Harvey," the achilles tendons severed on both ankles has the big man down.
"P-please, I ...I didn't do whatever it is you think I did! I'm not a bad man I swear it!"
Daebru lets out a hiss, an unseen dagger pulled by the bigger man cut crossed his side, "Innocents don't fight death, they weep in it's pressence!" he growls out at the man before digging a digger between his ribs and smiling up at him
Harvey's eyes go wide, "but you're ... you're just a child!" shock at seeing a small girl with ashen black hair, eye ringed with vibrant blood red, "so ... beauti-ful" his hand rund through the curls of the younger boy as he falls to the ground, poison finally catching up to him as his body goes numb.
"Death always is" Daebru pulls the dagger out of the man and lets him slump to the ground.
Wiping the dagger on the now dead man's clothing before sheathing it Daebru twists a bit to look at his wound and winces a bit. Gotta clean this up somewhere... he picks up the man's dagger off the ground, a simple thing, easily hidden in tunics and robes, No poison from the looks of it, that's good.
The flapping of wings is feintly heard as the rain starts to come down. Daebru leans against a few boxes near the end of the alley away from the dead and waits for his watcher to land, "Haaru..." the avariel lands before him curling off white feathered wings over the two of them, his blue eyes filled with worry for his charge. He runs a hand through his short white hair before removing his glove and leaning in to look at Daebru's wound, "you really should be more careful. I know you don't really care what happens, but I do"
"I'm fine Sune, or will be once it's cleaned and I get a bit of rest. It's reall..tss!" his tunic pulled over his head quickly pulls on the wound just enough. He covers his chest glaring at Sune, his avariel savior. before his eyes dart around nervously
"No one can see you right now besides me, so they won't know you're pretending to be a girl. So, when are you going to tell me your real name so that I can keep tabs on whoever's looking for you?" he asks casually as he puts a bit of salve on the cut. He's askes a few times before but maybe it'll be different this time as hope for answers shows in his eyes.
"It's my secret to keep, and I intend to keep it Sune. Please do- don't push it," another wince as the avariel gets to the thick part of the cut, "it's better you don't know, then it can't be forced out of you."
"Of course, forget I asked" Sune tenderly wraps a bandage over the wound before helping Daebru into a clean tunic, "I won't be able to fly with all this rain, so we're going to have to get a bit wet going back to the inn. You made it look like a mugging gone wrong yeah?" Daebru nods, "good" a pained expression corsses his face as he looks down at the other while folding his wings into a dimensional backpack of sorts, "perhaps .. you should take a break from assassinations Haaru..."
"I'm fine Sune."
"But you haven-"
A slender hand raised in his face cuts off his words, "I'm fine," the stubborn look on Daebru's face says it's a subject to not talk about.
"No, you're not, Haaru. I wish you were, if you'd ju-" his body goes rigid with a dagger suddenly pressed to his neck, "I'm sorry I .. I won't mention it again. I'm sorry" the dagger slowly pulls away as Daebru starts heading out into the street.
Sune walked in silence behind Haaru worried about the boy's past. What could he possibly be running from? He doesn't trust anyone, and barely trusts me with the fact that he's a boy rather than a girl. He's still a kid though and the Order is just using him to kill, what could be so horrifying that a kid would rather kill? He shakes his head o clear his mind a bit, "We'll be staying here tonight Haaru," he gestures towards a rather nice looking inn. The double doors run full length and are inlaid with etched glass rather than the saloon style doors of most places they stay at.
Haaru's eyes widen a bit as he looks up at the building, "fancy place, that not lile you," he looks over at Sune cocking a brow, "what's the occasion for getting nice digs like this?"
Sune can't help but smile at his imp of a charge, "You'll find out when we get inside," he pushes open the door for the young man and they move over to the bar, "Jasper, room key if you will? Everything's already up there I hope?"
Jasper, a rather broad muscled human with a scraggily beard and dark green eyes, smiles at Sune before pulling a key out of his pocket, "Of course Sunriver, only the best for your little flower" he gruff voice says as he hands over the key nodding towards Haaru a bit.
"Thanks, I'm sure she'll love the surprise," he smiles broadly before putting a gentle hand on Haaru's shoulder amused by the confused look on the young man's face, "This way Haaru"
Haaru raises an eyebrow at Sune as they walk away from the crowd down a hallway of doors, "little flower? Who does Jasper think I am?"
"My daughter, I didn't think you'd mind too much" the shocked look on Haaru's face warms the man's heart a bit "Plus it will help, at least in this area that the authorities won't be looking at you for what happened earlier tonight."
"R-right, yeah .. good call," Haaru ducks his head a bit hiding his face, "s-so should I call you dad or ...?"
If only you would, you truly are like a child to me, "If you want to, I don't think they'll really notice much if you don't" but I want you to Sune stops by the last door and unlocks it letting Haaru go in first. He leans down so he can whisper next to Haaru's ear, "Happy Birthday Haaru"
Haaru gives a slight smile seeing the cake and present on the table in the middle of the room. The boy wanders slowly over to them, "it's been a while ... s-since I celebrated ... though .. my birthday isn't actually for a couple more days.. not that I ever told you," his body starts shaking a bit as he reaches up to touch the package.
Sune closes the door lightly behind him and moves over to kneel down beside the boy, "Haaru? Are you alight? Haaru?" he puts a hand on Haaru's shoulder to turn the boy to face him, looking into his moonstone colored eyes to find that they look distant and dark, "Oh Haaru... I'm so sorry... I didn't .. I didn't mean to upset you" he pulls Haaru close holding him close, What happened to you that you react like this to a gift? Oh Haaru... I'm so sorry ... please forgive me, my child. Sune holds onto Haaru for some time rubbing the boys back and trying to get his mind back on the present with soothing sounds. Haaru seems to pass out before coming back to the present however, "I'm so sorry, for whatever happened to you" tears fall as he tucks Haaru into bed.
He watches Haaru sleep for quite some time from the chair, hoping the boy will wake and be alright, "I'll be here when you wake up, I'm not going anywhere Haaru, I'll always be here for you." He holds onto Haaru's hand fighting sleep for quite some time.
