I turned left by the big intersection before quickly speeding up towards the more quiet neighborhood where I was supposed to pick up my best friends Simon and Caspar. We had all three been inseparable for as long as I could remember, the three of us were an unusual pairing and kept our friendship even after we presented. I presented as an alpha, just like my father had hoped for, Simon was an omega, and Caspar a beta. Even though we were all different kinds, nothing changed between us as friends, something that was frowned upon around us, from both friends, family and classmates. We never let anything ruin our friendship though, especially me, considering I was the biggest “issue” people had with our group. Alphas weren’t supposed to be able to be “just friends” with omegas, especially not if another kind, such as a beta, was in the same group of friends. We were heavily scrutinized by most people around us, but we didn’t care.
I saw the two figures, one in a large oversized hoodie thrown over our school’s uniform in the middle of August and the other in a lighter uniform with a pair of sunglasses, a wide bright smile and waving his hands in the air. No one could miss that it was the two of them, they were complete polar-opposites yet weirdly fit together, a fact I liked to tease the two of them about. Though I was pretty sure Caspar had feelings for Simon, the other way around was harder to read, as Simon was always very kind and physical with everyone, not seeing any particular difference in his gestures towards Caspar. As Caspar was a guy with few words and even fewer expressions, it was hard to see what his true feelings were, it had taken some time before I could read the different dilations in his pupils as a sign of how he truly felt and was often Caspar’s interpreter. I had seen the way he looked at Simon ever since we were small pups, and knew his protective nature over the small and bubbly omega was more than just a friendly safetymessure, and more naturally claiming what he deep down wanted to be his. I didn’t pry much, as the most I got out of Caspar was a muffled “I don’t want to ruin us” or “I can’t force anything”.
As I pulled up by the curb, Simon quickly opened the door to the backseat and jumped in, dragging Caspar in by the hem of his shirt as they both naturally seated next to each other, Caspar in the middle seat. He had realized a few years ago he could blame motion sickness as a reason to sit right next to Simon, who was too nice to let Caspar sit “all alone and left out in the backseat”, thus our rides in my car was a safe haven for Caspar to bask in his and Simon’s proximity to each other, letting me and Simon talk and hold the conversation, happy with just being by the omegas’ side, stealing a few glances here and there.
- Ugh I can’t wait until we’re seniors! It’s gonna be so nice being the oldest in our school.
- Sure, being the oldest is nice but that doesn’t mean anything though if we’re not a part of “the alphapack”.
- Shush, I’m just saying I’ll have at least my age to bargain with, you know. Besides we’re only juniors, so it’s one more year before that happens.
- If it ever happens- Ouch!
- I said SHHH. Let me have my moment of dominance, don’t ruin it for me before it’s even happened, baby alpha.
I simply rolled my eyes before looking into the rearview mirror, catching Caspars' look directed towards Simon.
- Caspar thinks you’re full of shit too.
- Wha- Caspar??
- I didn’t-
- You two suck sometimes, being all alpha/beta on me. Why can you just read him like that Shawn? and also rude Casper, I didn't need to know that.
- I just can, ok? He’s easy to read.
- Yeah. Right.
- Just stay still and be nice Simon, you know we love you.
- We do.
- I know. I mean, who wouldn't.
I didn’t even have to look at Caspar until now he was throwing heart eyes all over Simon as the smaller omega puffed out his chest, and brushed his own ego with a shit-eating grin. I only huffed in response before turning into the parking lot of our school. As per usual we had most of our classes together, the only difference being that Simon and Caspar had decided to add dancing as their extra subject this year, as Simon already danced hip hop in his spare time, and Caspar being shit at it but wanting to be next to Simon. I decided to just add arts to it, as I liked to sketch and sometimes paint with oils, I was of course the only alpha in that class but most had realized that I wasn’t a typical alpha and left me alone most of the time, some were even quite nice to me during the classes. People wouldn’t dare bother me or my friends as I was the son of Angus, the Alpha of the biggest and most notorious pack on this side of the states. Though I had first been asked to join our “popular alphapack” in school, but as they finally realized I wasn’t interested they scoffed and left me alone, which I was more than happy with.
I simply wanted a nice and quiet high school experience with my two best friends, and thus far it seemed to be all there ever would be. Hopefully it would stay that way.
