Bones bleached white rested in a black sand like substance where many men had perished. The desert wherein laid the bones was barren of any life, everything was dead.
An interstellar personal transport landed on the sand. The exhaust from the shuttle turned the bones to ash.
Several moments passed in the still desert and nothing moved. A motor whirred and a ramp descended from the ship. A solitary man cloaked in white stepped from the ship onto the ramp and into the sands.
He stared at the remnants of what had been his friends.
To the wind and ash he murmured "Fare you well my friends, wherever your souls have fled"
He walked through the desert of ash guided by a signal. It was a distress beacon, and he intended to find out if any of his people had escaped their doom.
He walked for several minutes before reaching the source of the signal. A hatch was covered in several feet of ash. The man's cloak had become stained in black soot. He quickly produced an instrument which he used to vaporize the hatch and the ash that covered it. Without hesitation the man jumped into the dark hole and In the darkness he shouted "light!". Light shone in the darkness and a vault door was revealed before the man. He quickly tapped several commands into a band on his arm and the vault opened. Inside the door a long corridor led to a single chamber. He ran through the corridor and into the room. Therein laid the dead bodies of his wife and youngest children. They had been shot and discarded. As he fell to his knees in horror he did not realize the micro camera on the wall, but someone was watching him.
