Blurred Vision

Prologue

Prologue

Jan 04, 2023

At first, Kaeso thought that it was just his imagination. From time to time, the memory played tricks on his mind, adding the missing facial features which supposed to be seen in people. Passing by one of the shop's windows, he saw a face on a mannequin as it suddenly made a move. Usually, Kaeso would not pay any attention to his illusions. It is sad to say, but he got used to seeing things. They always disappeared when he decided to focus his sight on them. Therefore, for Kaeso walking through the crowds of people was like a stroll through the kaleidoscope, in which everything changes with just one step. To not get insane, he needed to occupy his mind with something else. Usually, he imagined new projects he wanted to realize or corrections to graffiti he had already painted.

However, that day's walk-through mall was different. Driven by curiosity, Kaeso involuntarily looked in the mannequin's direction. It was not related to the interest in its face but its movement. He wanted to check what exactly was happening at the store's display, not to regret missing something special that might have happened in front of him.

Have they already started to use robots at the shop displays? Was the store employee changing the clothes presented on the manikin? Or maybe a robot was dressing up the other robot? Those and many other questions went through Kaeso's mind in a split second as he turned his head and blankly gave it a look.

Kaeso slowed down his pace. There was no need to stop, just to make a glare. And then, his eyes met her eyes. They were like two onyx stones immersed in pearly white skin. Her equally black hair was tucked behind her ears, which prevented the disturbance in admiring her face, a work of art.

Kaeso wondered if it was just hers or if all the people's faces used to be so magnificent. The same feelings of insecurity and excitement melting with each other accompanied him when he first saw Adam and Agis' faces. From Kaeso's perspective, a teenager who has seen only his reflection for several years, they were unique and beautiful. Of course, he had never told them about it. Still, he restrained himself from saying those two words whenever he met Adam or Agis. However, this time in front of his eyes appeared a different kind of beauty, derived not only from facial distinctiveness but from how every part of it matched each other and simultaneously was a masterpiece in itself. Kaeso knew it was the most marvelous view he would see in a very long time. He was sure about it until she smiled. The girl's red wine lips immediately lit up her face. At this moment, a strange feeling flooded Kaeso's heart. An urge to know her name, what kind of person she is, what she likes... Everything. He needed to talk with her as soon as possible.

After the girl smiled, she left the display, disappearing behind the clothes-filled shelves. When she vanished from Kaeso's eyesight, he ran as fast as possible, rushing into the store and nervously looking around, searching for her. Noone of the clients inside looked like her. But it was certain that she needed to be somewhere inside the shop. There was no possibility that she left it before Kaeso got there. Moving to the dressing room, he found only one occupied cabin.

She must be inside.

Waiting for the girl he saw a few minutes ago to get out, Kaeso could not calm down. Walking back and forth, he was constantly looking at the closed door. Eventually, it opened. But the person inside was not the one Kaeso was waiting for. The woman who went outside quietly passed by him, not knowing what a great drama she played a role in.

Kaso spent a whole day wandering around the mall, trying to find her, but he failed. It seemed that she must have disappeared in that store...

I thought adding a prologue to the story would be a good idea. ^^
