It was a cool, sunny, ordinary day in Kyoto. What was about to happen would change the fate of a young man who risked his life to save those in danger. Here's his story…
"Tekashi! If you don't leave now the bank will close!" Said mom.
"Right! I'm leaving, bye!" Said Tekashi.
Tekashi Ryano was a young man who had a steady job, no girlfriend and lived with his mother. He strolled down the sidewalk waving to people passing by and eventually reached the bank. He walked inside and waited in line. After a while, he was the next in line to deposit his paycheck. Unfortunately, just when it was his turn, a man barged in with a mask and a gun. Tekashi couldn't believe it! He had always heard stories and seen the news about stuff like this be he never imagined it would happen to him.
"Everyone on the ground!" The robber yelled.
The robber walked up to the counter and told the teller "Put everything you got in the bag!"
The teller who was shaking quickly started to throw money into his bag. Tekashi looked around him. Some scared women and men couldn't move a muscle. He thought he should just stay where he was and hopefully, the robber would just leave eventually. Then out of nowhere, a gunshot was heard and a man fell to the ground holding his leg.
"I said to stay on the ground!" Yelled the robber.
All of a sudden Tekashi felt strange. His blood coursing through his veins was intense and he couldn't stop his body from moving. He ushered some people outside while the robber wasn't looking. Almost everyone was safe except a few girls in a corner. He crawled towards them and led them to the door but just as a few of them left the robber turned around and noticed them. Without thinking, Tekashi stood up and shielded the girls until they got outside but the robber fired his gun and the bullet pierced his chest. He fell to the ground in pain and the robber ran past him out the door. After a few minutes, the police arrived and secured the area.
One of the officers kneeled by Tekashi and said "You saved many lives today. You're a hero, mister."
With a raspy voice, he said "A hero huh? I guess I was."
He closed his eyes and unbeknownst to him he died. However, something strange happened. He woke up at the bank but it was now night. He had a mild headache but nothing else. He checked the area where he was shot but it was as if the bullet never even touched him. He got up and started to walk home but as he was strolling along he noticed some people wearing weird clothes.
He walked up to them and said "Hey was there a comic-con that I missed or something?"
They looked puzzled and one of them said "What's a comic-con?"
He was shocked for a minute but then regained composure.
"Alright, you can stop pulling my leg." He said.
"Why would I pull on your leg? I have no reason to hurt you." Said one of them.
Tekashi told them he was sorry to bother them and walked home.
He thought to himself "This city is getting weirder every day."
He walked up to his front door and was about to open it with his key but it wasn't in his pocket. He knocked on the door and two people came to the door that he had never seen before.
"Can I help you with something?" One of them asked.
"Why are you in my house?" Tekashi said.
"Your house? We've lived here for several years, pal. This isn't your house." They said as the door shut.
Annoyed that he couldn't even go to sleep in his old house, he went to a hotel and booked a cheap room.
"Maybe some rest will help and then I can sort things out in the morning."
As the sun rose the next day he got up and turned on the TV. He stopped on one of the news channels when he saw a building he didn't recognize.
The reporter said "Today marks the tenth anniversary of the Kyomagi Institute. To celebrate, there will be a festival on the grounds later on today with many activities!"
"Huh, I've never seen that place before." Said Tekashi.
Before the reporter was done she did something strange. She somehow gave a watery thumbs up on the air. Tekashi's jaw dropped and he knew he needed to get to that institute to see what it was all about.
On the way there he thought to himself "Was that some sort of magic? I've never seen anything like that before!"
After he arrived, he went through the festival. As he was walking he bumped into someone else. He went to catch them but before he could they pushed a beam of light from their hands and caught themselves.
"What?! How did you do that?!" Tekashi said.
"Um, I just used magic that's all." They said.
"Magic? But I don't understand! It's not real. But you just used it!" Said Tekashi.
"Hm. You don't seem familiar with magic, huh? Why don't I show you around? My name's Maeda." She said.
"Thanks! My name is-" Tekashi said as he stopped.
He thought to himself "Maybe I should be careful about telling people who I am just in case."
He then said, "My name is Ruddol."
"C'mon. Let me introduce you to someone who can explain magic better than I can." Said Maeda.
Tekashi Ryano used to be an ordinary guy. Now, he found himself in a strange new world and, to his surprise, there was actual magic that maybe he could use himself one day! But he still doesn't really have anywhere to live and he lied to the one person he just met in this world. What will he do?
