At a bus stop, a girl wearing a hoodie and a cap was sitting on a bench with her body leaning forward, waiting for the rain to stop. With tired eyes and long strands of hair tangled around her face, she looked as if she hadn’t rested at all. It was already almost night, and the sky seemed heavier than ever at that hour.
“Today was a long day… my shift at the shop is finally over… I just want to go home.”
She looked around to see if the bus had arrived. It was taking too long…
“When is it going to arrive? It always comes at this time.”
Returning to her previous position, with her body bent forward and her head lowered, she noticed that the rain had formed a puddle near her feet. But something was strange—the reflection that should have been there wasn’t.
Leaning closer to look at the puddle, she saw the face of another person.
Suddenly, arms emerged from the puddle, grabbing her and pulling her inside. They were far too strong. She couldn’t resist, and in just a few seconds…
…she was completely sucked into the puddle.
When she opened her eyes, she felt strange. Her body felt lighter, yet weaker. She became even more unsettled when she looked around—it was a completely unfamiliar room, nothing like her own. A small, poorly kept room, with a bed covered in rough, thin, uncomfortable sheets.
Someone opened the door.
“Miss! You’re awake already?”
“Y-y-yes! But who are you?”
“Oh! Yes, sorry for not introducing myself. I’m a newly hired maid—today is my first day here.”
“A new maid?”
“Yes, that’s why you don’t recognize my face. I’ll call the doctor to examine you.”
After the maid left, she tried to stand up and walk toward a window that was open on one of the room’s walls. She couldn’t keep her balance—her legs were weak, as if she had forgotten how to walk.
“What is this?! My legs!”
She completely lost her balance and fell to the floor.
THUD!
“Aaaah…”
“MISS!! Are you okay?!”
“Aaaah…”
“Wait, I’ll help you up. You shouldn’t push yourself so much, miss—you’re still ill.”
“Ill?”
While helping her up, the maid asked the doctor, who was standing by the door, to come closer.
After examining the young lady’s condition, he asked her a few questions.
“Do you feel nauseous or dizzy?”
“N-no… I-I-I don’t feel nauseous or dizzy. But… where is this place?”
“Hmm…”
“Then I’ll ask another question. What is your name?”
“My name is… my name is…”
“Why can’t I remember my own name?”
“I’ll ask one more question. Do you know where you are?”
“I-I don’t know! Who are you people?!”
“Hmm… I believe Miss Berla has suffered temporary memory loss. It would be best for her to remain under observation for a while.”
The doctor stood up and left the room, leaving the two of them behind.
She kept questioning herself over and over, wondering why she couldn’t remember her name or where she was, completely confused. Noticing her condition, the maid also left the room to give her some time alone.
Moments later, seconds after the maid had left, a screen appeared right in front of the dazed girl lying on the bed. The screen introduced itself as the System.
“Hello! Welcome to the new romance game ‘The Saint with Crystal Eyes’. I am the System. Your role as a supporting character is to befriend the protagonists and assist in the development of their romance.”
