Episode I — The Great Awakening Test
Prologue: The Wish
“Aethryon, the time has come for you to awaken,” echoed the harmonious voices of the five Deities of Nature, pulling Aethryon’s dormant soul from its slumber. Slowly, his eyes fluttered open, but the overwhelming brilliance of the void of white light surrounding him obscured his view of the Divine Plane. Five giant flaming orbs circled him, the manifestations of the Nature Deities: Gaia, Erebus, Tartarus, Aion, and Shu. Each orb radiated a distinct neon glow, the colors of the Deities’ auras. Aion shimmered with a golden glow, Erebus with a dark violet, Tartarus with a bright red, Shu with a celestial blue, and Gaia with green and gold.
Glancing down, Aethryon saw his own hands glowing, translucent, and bathed in a celestial magenta aura. He gasped, startled.
“Fear not, you are safe,” the Deities assured him. They spoke in unison, their voices calm and resonant. “The Great War is over, and thanks to your sacrifice, balance has been restored. We owe you an immense debt. Without your actions, saving our world would have been impossible. As a token of our gratitude, we will grant you a wish before you return to your sacred duties. What is it that you desire?” the Deities asked.
Aethryon hesitated, pondering deeply. Finally, he lifted his gaze to the Deities and declared, “I wish to become human . . . a human mage.”
There was a long pause, the orbs’ divine light flickering as they were momentarily taken by surprise at their fellow deity’s peculiar wish. “Are you certain?” Gaia asked. “Life as a human, particularly as a mage, is fraught with challenges. You have never experienced mortal existence, and the journey may be far more demanding than you anticipate.”
“I understand the risks,” Aethryon replied, his voice steady but tinged with unease. “But the allure of living among humans, engaging in their societies, and experiencing their mage cultures, captivates me.”
“This is not a wish we grant lightly,” the Deities warned. “Are you fully aware of the implications?”
Before Aethryon could respond, the Divine Plane was illuminated by three luminous silhouettes. Each figure stood over twenty feet tall; their slender bodies and elongated heads composed of pure, intense light. They lacked any visible facial features or limbs. These were the Ascended Masters, Metatron, Uriel, and Karma, beings of immense power and authority, direct messengers of the Origin, the primordial force from which all existence stemmed. Even the Deities acknowledged their dominion.
“Ascended Masters?” Aion inquired. “What brings you here? Is there a message from the Origin?”
The Masters engaged in a hushed, cryptic dialogue with the Deities, their ethereal voices faint but purposeful. Aethryon strained to hear but could only catch fragments. “He is the Transcendental Light . . . guardian of Chaos’s Key . . . crucial to the Primordial . . .”
“We are aware,” the Masters replied in unison. “But despite his noble intentions, it was his actions that led to this calamity. The Origin believes this is his opportunity to heal the wounds he helped inflict during the Great War of the Ancients.”
The Deities deliberated briefly, their forms shimmering with uncertainty. Finally, they turned to Aethryon. “Very well. We shall grant your wish,” they declared, their tone cautious. “But there are two conditions.”
“Name them,” Aethryon responded, his resolve unwavering.
“First,” the Deities stated, “you shall have only one human lifetime. Use it wisely.”
“And the second?” Aethryon asked.
“You shall incarnate as the future Archmage of Agartha, a royal title you yourself established centuries ago, to govern the mages. The mage ruling class has since become corrupt, however, influenced by rogue elementals under the command of your creations. It will be your duty to rectify these wrongs and restore balance. Do you accept?”
Aethryon paused, the weight of the conditions sinking in. Finally, he nodded firmly. “I accept.”
Ascended Master Karma let out a chuckle. “Let’s see how the mighty Transcendental Deity handles mortality. You’ll complain about the human world just like the rest of the mortal souls.”
“Karma, enough,” Metatron scolded, then addressed Aethryon. “Pay no mind to them. They enjoy being a nuisance. We have already chosen a suitable family for your arrival on Earth. Prepare yourself.”
As the Deities approached Aethryon, a brilliant light engulfed them. Their parting words echoed through the Divine Plane. “Good luck on your journey, Aethryon.”
