Space doesn't like being alone. He can't stand it. If he's left alone too long he starts to worry. He starts to overthink.
So when Axl and Jax still hadn't returned he began to worry. What if they don't want to be around me anymore?
What if they got in a car accident? What if they leave me like the rest did?
Then he hears the jingling of keys and the front door unlocking and all of his worries vanish. But that only lasts for a moment. Because only one of them walks through the door. Axl, his arms full of grocery bags.
Now of course Space is happy to see Axl, but he's worried about Jax. Jax usually stays out late and perfers to be alone but Space still worries. He always worries.
"Where's Jax?" Space asks.
"Out," Axl says, putting up groceries in the pantry.
"Out where?"
Axl sighs and looks over at Space with a gentle look. He cups Space's cheek in his hand. Space leans into the touch. "You worry too much. You know he just wants to be alone for a little."
Space whines. "I know but what if he gets hurt or his phone dies and he forgets his way home?" They continue going on about what-ifs as Axl tries to bring them back to the present.
"Space!" Axl yells, finally getting their attention. Space finally looks at him. Their eyes are complete opposites. While Axl has pools of thick ink his his eyes, Space has eyes that are a perfect mirror of the night sky but without the light pollution. One could find every consteallation in those eyes if they looked long enough. Sometimes the planets and the moon can be seen too.
"Yeah?"
"Calm down. Take a deep breath and try to focus on something else."
Space pulls at their fingers absent-mindedly, trying to distract from their growing worry. They glance over at Axl who is busy stacking boxes of macaroni and cheese on the pantry shelves.
He then starts to chew on his finger nail and grips a fistful of his hair. He doesn't even realize he's doing this until Axl comes over and gently taps his elbows.
"You're pulling your hair again, darling," Axl says as Space lowers his arms.
"I was?"
Axl nods. "You wanna watch a movie until Jax comes home?"
"Yes please."
Space lays down on the couch, his head in Axl's lap. Axl turns the TV on and Space begins to forget about all his worry.
Three friends just trying to make it by. In high school they were constantly getting into trouble, all of them just looking for a distraction. Wether it was walking on telephone pole wires or breaking lamppost lights, they'll take any distraction over facing their problems.
Now having moved out and in together they have responsibilities and work to do. At least those are distractions.
But when old troubles ressurface will they be able to overcome them or will they fall short trying?
