Lying on the bed seemingly unconscious, a sickly-looking young man covered in bloody bandages with his eyes closed. However, in the next moment, they snapped open. Apathetic and empty, they gave people chills.
In spite of the extreme changes to his surrounding, the young man’s expression did not shift. He was neither shocked nor afraid at the foreignness of everything, but he was not relaxed either. There was vigilance in his cerulean blue eyes. It was as if he had accepted the present situation and was just waiting to see what happened next.
He slowly got up from the bed and turned his head, observing his surroundings.
His current appearance was like a mummy’s, with his head, chest, arms, and legs wrapped in the white bandages. They weren’t meticulously coiled around his thin limbs or body, being loose at some parts. Yet, although crudely done, it was able to completely conceal what was underneath.
The young man was quite beautiful, emanating an otherworldly aura. But his facial features weren’t to a point where if someone glanced upon him, their soul would be wisped away—he was a little dazzling, resembling the cool pear blossoms underneath the sun in the early spring.
Sticking out from underneath all of the bandages, the young man had long light bluish silver hair that bore semblance to the pale moon in the night sky. It scintillating like the finest silk in the light. He also owned a pair of icy blue almond eyes that were so pale, they seemed to be translucent. The light passed through his full, light coloured lashes, to cast a shadow. Leading down, the young man had a straight but slightly smaller nose. It added a hint of nobleness. Below were pale red petal-like lips seemingly painted by the hands of Li Sixun¹.
But the most envious thing of all was the quality of his skin as it appeared poreless and smooth like jade. Subsequently, because his features had yet to fully mature, the actions of his long lashes drooping downward made his appearance extremely meng², if you ignored the hollow look in his eyes.
Carefully, his eyes scanned around the room, looking for any signs of life. After thoroughly examining around the room, his slender brows furrowed. Once again, his eyes swept across the empty space—he was the only one here.
The place he woke up in was a small room. The ceiling, walls, and the floor were stained in pure white, as if it could not tolerate even a speck of impurity. On the right side, there was a small plain desk with nothing on top. Next to it, a chair was neatly pushed in. The last object in the room was the bed on which he woke up in. It was located right beside the desk, giving the illusion that it was spacious inside of the small room.
Squinting his eyes, he averted it down to the bed; the scenery was all too blinding to look at. There were no traces of any other colour besides the shadows underneath the objects, giving off a feeling of too much holiness.
The young man felt some unease.
He never had any fondness toward that color, finding it piteous. It was too pure, too easily sullied.
In the world where he grew up, that kind of pureness would soon be swallowed up and be tainted with the ugliness that lies in mankind’s hearts. It also represented something he found to be ironic, causing extreme dislike to well up within him because it was fallacious.
Sitting on it, the young man noticed that the bed wasn’t overly soft, where it would make one just want to sink into the softness in bliss; but it wasn’t extremely firm either, where it could injure your back by just laying down. There was just the right amount of impressibility and rigidness as if made just for him. However, the feeling of being on a bed was new and odd to him.
His gaze lingered on the bed. Pondering, he conjured up many possibilities of how the current situation came to be. Unfortunately, all of that was for naught as none of them came close to the actual reason.
As he was contemplating, a childish voice disrupted his thoughts.
A/N: '[...]' Bao Bao speaking out loud. '<...>' Bao Bao speaking through telepathy. Also, this sounds like a commercial to me… haha
The young man made no movement, "..."
Hearing an unfamiliar voice ring in his mind, his breathtaking, blue eyes narrowed slightly, emitting a cold light.
He glanced around the room, searching for the origin of the voice. But even after sweeping the room, he was unable to identify this other ‘entity’ in the space he was in.
The young man was certain that there wasn’t another ‘being’ inside of the room as he trusted his instincts… But how could he explain why he heard a voice? He was certain that he hadn’t gone crazy yet, and started hallucinating… perhaps it could be that his senses were becoming dull.
The young man's gaze sharpened. His cold eyes were like drawn swords, emotionless, and readily prepared to strike.
This made Bao Bao break out in goosebumps on his non-existent flesh from the young man's dagger-like stare.
[...] (((╹д╹;)))
[*coughs* I come in peace… If you sign a contract with me, you will receive compensation naturally and won’t have the short end of the stick with this deal...] Ahh, why is Bao Bao’s first host like this? His eyes are scaring Bao Bao! It’s not like he even sees Bao Bao…. Bao Bao didn't do anything either! Bao Bao is so meng~ and such a good system!
The young man frowned, contemplating the immature voice’s words. "..."
Bao Bao: TMD⁴. You won’t reject Bao Bao will you…?
Trying to think back on what might have triggered his soon-to-be host’s hostility, a likely reason why he might be rejected, Bao Bao suddenly recalled something. Err… Previously, he had been staring unblinkingly at his potential host for an indefinite time when he first arrived…
Could it be that? (,,꒪꒫꒪,,) *gasp* It couldn’t be right…? He couldn’t even see him then… Also, Bao Bao was just *cough* ‘examining’ his soon-to-be host’s face… That wasn’t a crime… (。ŏ﹏ŏ)
As he was in his own little bubble, the young man's mouth faintly curved upwards. "Yes."
His answer was short but there was no doubt in his voice as he answered. He didn't care who it was that he’d struck a deal with. Whatever and whoever it may be, he would take their outstretched hand. Even if it was a devil or a god, he would have agreed. Right now, he was too weak, far too weak. He needed more power to end the root of his suffering.
In those captivating eyes, there flashed an unfathomable light, but it quickly disappeared as fast as it came.
If Bao Bao could only hear the young man's thoughts, he would've coughed up blood by and lamented on how he didn't get a cute and innocent host, but a demon-like one instead. He was already very afraid of the initial interaction between the two of them already. Thankfully, he wasn’t equipped with a mindreading ability and was ignorant of the other’s thoughts.
Bao Bao, who was preparing to continue persuading, almost choked on his own words.
[There's bene- Eh? What?] Huh? What happened? How can you agree so easily? Bao Bao still had so much to say to host... Wuuu~~~ Stupid manual... You didn't tell Bao Bao that hosts could be like this... Now Bao Bao embarrassed himself.
He started to swing his overly round body, feeling a little ashamed. Bao Bao had wanted to seem 'cool' to his 'host' for his initial meeting. As they say, first impressions are the most lasting.
The young man didn't speak again and stayed silent. "..."
Bao Bao felt that his soon-to-be host didn’t like talking much, seeing that the number of words he had said could be counted with one hand. He then thought that perhaps the other was just being shy or embarrassed.
Taking a peek at the one on the bed, he immediately tossed it to the wind. Where do you see that he was embarrassed? Ah, pei³! He comforted himself. Everything was okay! The young man can just listen and he will do the talking! Hehe~ ۹(ÒہÓ)۶
Bao Bao cleared his throat. He can’t screw up his speech again!
[*ahem* Uh, well then. Let’s continue.]
[Um... Establish soul link!]
Right after Bao Bao finished speaking, a piercingly bright light flashed from his invisible body. The brightness forced the young man to close his eyes. When the light receded, he reopened them again and saw a chain that seemed to be covered in a soft light extend from the left side of his chest. Following the links, he saw that he was connected to a... ball…?
Yes, it was a ball that he was connected to. A very fluffy white and round ball...
Within seconds, the silhouette of the chain became fainter and fainter, before disappearing completely as if it had never been there.
Not long after, there was a sudden flash of heat. The young man barely glanced at it before looking back up at the floating white ball of fluff.
[Congratulations host! Our contract has been completed. From here on out we will be partners~! ☆*:.。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆]
A burst of colorful confetti fell out from the air magically. It sprinkled down, covering the young man and the bed. Bao Bao was over the moon. He was unable to hold his happiness, flying around energetically.
Staring at the bouncy ball, the young man didn’t expect the figure behind the voice to look and act like this… but even so, he didn’t really have any expectations of what it would look or behave like in the first place…
Bao Bao had momentarily forgotten that he wanted to look 'cool’. He carelessly jumped around as if he was injected with chicken blood. He felt that he could run throughout the entire solar system a hundred times without stopping.
