This fanfic is written by Shiro and Bud (@BingusBeltcanon and @BudPixels on Twitter). We are heavily inspired by another work called “Bandit’s Belt” by Homeblue. Anyone familiar with BB knows it contains a surprising combination of heartwarming character moments and graphic, gorey imagery.
We aim to create a fic full of impactful moments while appealing to a wider audience. That said, we are NOT just copying BB and making it friendlier. We plan to build a unique world separate from BB. That way, fans of BB can enjoy it too!
However, this fic still contains major character death, injuries (non-graphic), depictions of mental disorders, and swearing. Please stop reading if you don’t think you’ll be comfortable with any of that. If you’re all good, then we hope you enjoy our Bluey fanfiction:
Chilli’s Heart
Chapter 1: Breakfast
It was a rainy morning in Brisbane, Australia. Colorful houses lined the roads of a peaceful neighborhood. It was quiet, except for a few families playing joyfully in the rain. At the top of the hill, one particular family was playing inside and enjoying life to the fullest.
“I DON’T WANT TO BE A PENGUIN,” yelled Bingo Heeler, the youngest child.
Her dad, a blue heeler named Bandit, was close behind, “JOIN USSSS.”
The family was playing “penguin tag.” It wasn’t the kid’s most clever creation, but they still loved it. Bluey, a small blue heeler, was sitting on her mom’s lap on the couch waiting their turn. Chilli, a red heeler, was still recovering from her last turn. This round was longer than usual, likely because of Bandit’s exhaustion. “AHA, got you,” he yelled, finally catching up to the inexhaustible heeler. Bingo let out a small scream and started quacking like a duck.
“Heh, close enough,” Bandit chuckled to himself. “You lot ready for your rematch?” Bandit pointed to his wife, slightly out of breath.
“You bet!-” She was still exhausted after running away from Bluey before but didn’t want to stop the game's flow. The two got into their start positions. Bingo, being the honorary game starter, lifted her hand in the air and threw it back down. The two were off. They ran past the couch and around the corner, going into the dining room. Bluey was laughing hysterically with Chilli right on her tail.
“Almost… gasp… got you!” Chilli started to slow down, putting one hand on her side. She eventually fell on one knee, breathing heavily. Bluey stopped running and turned around. “Haha! I’ll never be a penguin,” Bluey yelled proudly. She then ran back to the others, and Bandit congratulated her, petting her head.
It took a minute for Chilli to rejoin the group. “There she is! You’ll get ‘em next time babe! The South Pole has enough penguins anyway,” Bandit said jokingly, waving his hand up and down.
Chilli was visibly upset. Bandit looked over. “Hey. You alright?” Chilli dropped her head slightly but didn’t reply. “It’s all good! It’s just a game ba-”
“IT’S NOT JUST A GAME,” Chilli outbursted. Bandit was shocked for a moment. His light expression softened. “Hey kids, can you go upstairs for a sec? I think there’s a missing… uh… penguin up there!” Bandit motioned them away. “Ok Dad,” Bingo and Bluey said in unison, running up the stairs together.
Chilli continued, “I’m clearly out of shape! I can’t even keep up with you guys anymore! This happened last time… remember?” Bandit got up from the couch and walked up to her. “And I mean, just look at me! I’ve lost so much weight. I bet you don’t even-”
“CHILLI,” Bandit interrupted. She stopped. He put both hands on her shoulders.
“It. is. ok! You’ve already done plenty. You managed to run away from Bluey for a solid 5 minutes! And you know how fast she is!” Bandit smiled. “AND I promise, you look just as good, if not better than when I married you.” He put one hand on her cheek. She was still doubtful, leaning away from him. She looked at him. It was obvious that he was being genuine.
Sigh
She closed her eyes and smiled, leaning into him. He wrapped his arms around her. They stood like that for a minute.
“I’m sorry…” Chilli said quietly.
“Don’t be… I get it…” Bandit tightened his arms, rocking her gently. They stood like that for another minute.
“Ok! How about you get breakfast ready, and I’ll take care of the kids? Just clear your mind for a bit and relax,” Bandit said with both hands on her shoulders again. “Ok… Thank you.” she wiped a tear out of her eye, gently smiling. She kissed him and walked away to the kitchen.
Bandit smiled and went to check on the kids. “What’s going on up here? Did you find that penguin yet?” “Yeah! Apparently, he was trying to run away from the cover-ment,” Bluey replied.
“Really?” Bandit playfully replied.
…
“Kids! Breakfast is ready!” Chilli yelled. The others excitedly joined her in the kitchen, sitting at their seats. Chilli already prepared everyone’s plates, so they started to dig in. “Lovely eggs, as usuuuual,” Bandit complimented. Chilli looked up from her plate and smiled. The kids played with their food a little bit but also enjoyed her cooking.
Some time passed, and Bluey was clearly thinking about something. Bandit noticed this, and asked, “You look like you're putting your brain to work. How’s school?”
“Uh… Oh! It’s good. Me and Chloe thought of a new game to play…” Bluey’s mind was still somewhere else. “That’s cool!” Bandit replied.
“Yeah… um…”
“What’s up Bluey?”
“Umm. It’s just… Mum-” Bluey moved her attention.
“What happened earlier? Are you ok?” Bandit looked at Chilli. Bingo wasn’t paying attention.
Chilli’s eyes widened, and her mouth opened slightly. “Uh… Well… You see… Uhhhh…”
She looked at Bandit as if begging for help. Bandit raised his eyebrows, not knowing what to say. She looked back at Bluey, without an answer. She felt like the room was closing in on her.
“Uhhhhh… I… need… to do the dishes-” She grabbed her empty plate along with Bandit’s, and got up to clean them. Next to the sink, there was a small pile of plates and silverware that needed to be cleaned.
The room was silent. The only thing that could be heard was running water and scrubbing. Bluey could tell she was avoiding the question, but she didn’t want to push it any further.
"soooo... kids... did you sleep well?"
“Yep!” Only Bingo replied.
“Great! Greeeeat…”
Bluey was looking down at her plate. “Did I say something wrong?”
“No! Bluey…look…” Bandit looked down at the table, speechless. Bluey’s eyebrows dropped. She quickly jumped down from her seat, running up to her room. This caught Bingo’s attention. “Bluey!” Bandit yelled, then sighed. “Is everything ok?” Bingo asked. “Yeah! Everything’s ok! Just finish your food mate. I’ll talk to your sister. Bandit got up from the table. Chilli’s head dropped slightly.
Bingo looked around confused. Chilli was the only other person in the room.
“Is everything ok?” She asked again. Chilli dropped the fork she was cleaning.
“Yes-” She replied.
“Are… Are you sure?”
“No…… You know what? No. It’s NOT ok.” Chilli threw a towel into the sink and turned. Bingo’s expression changed.
“Everything is NOT ok! I ruined penguin tag. I overcooked some of the food. And then, I RUINED breakfast because I can’t explain to your SISTER-- WHY I FEEL THE WAY I DO.” Chilli was almost constantly yelling now. “All I want is for YOU to UNDERSTAND. BUT HOW COULD YOU? How could anyone? Sure, Bandit makes me not feel bad for a few minutes, BUT WHAT ABOUT NEXT TIME? AND THE TIME AFTER THAT? And the time… after…”
Chilli stopped.
A tear fell from Bingo’s face.
“OH! Bingo… I… I didn’t mean to… I…"
Chilli started to cry. She ran away to another room, leaving Bingo alone. She was breathing heavily. Sweat fell from her forehead.
“I… promise… I…”
She fell on one knee. She tried to convince herself of something but couldn’t get the words out. The furniture around her started to look fuzzy.
The room got darker until she couldn’t see anything.
She collapsed to the floor, slowly breathing.
