Chosen Ones: The Guardians of the Forge

Chapter 1

Varzoth was an ordinary demon boy (You should be used to weird entrances by now so I’m just going to say it) who thought that the world wasn’t wrong, but that the world wasn’t right. He lived in Romania, not the one you know but the one in the demon realm. He was an ordinary Demon whose dream was to become the apprentice of the forgekeeper, he got what he wanted, but at a cost. He saw what the world really was, and he dedicated the rest of his life to trying to change it. He had gone on journeys to create the most powerful weapons, save many lives, and all to make way for the prophecy of the new emperor. He was the new emperor, not yet, but one day. First he had many dangerous quests and hurdles to jump before then, but he was going to make it someday…

A small carriage rode across the horizon, watching for any sign of the guardian’s. A legend most said, but he believed in them. Led by the next emperor, and his teammates they say they attack any important’s. Varzoth stood in the way of the carriage, and stared into the rider’s eyes. They were terrified, and they stopped right on sight. They begged for the keeper to let him live, all Varzoth did was raise his hand in dismissal.

“You important’s thinking you can ride into our lands, and steal our food.” Varzoth motioned to the carriage which held his village's food supplies stolen by the important’s. “You all have no right to dismiss us in such treason, you stole from the unimportant’s no?” Varzoth asked.

The man nodded, “I stole, the Emperor asked of me, a simple man. I ask of you next in line for you to put pity on me and release me from your grasp.” This had happened to Varzoth multiple times, he didn’t need to do anything anymore. All he needed to do was stare at a person long enough for them to realize who he was.

“You are released, but from now on, you steal only from the powerful. Just because we have less doesn’t mean we are not strong.” Said Varzoth. He motioned and multiple of his comrades entered into eyesight and took only the supplies the man had stolen, “We take what’s ours and leave, you leave with what’s yours. War is coming for the important’s, and I remind you that it is your fault.”

The man bowed once more and thanked some more, he walked back to his carriage and they let him continue.

Lilith, Varzoth’s best friend since the whole figuring out the important’s were evil thing, slapped him on the back. “You're getting good at doing the whole ‘I am emperor fear me’ thing.”

Varzoth smiled, “Ya I guess I am, everyone knows about me now. The emperor is being challenged, I might as well use it for as long as I can.”

Lilith nodded, “Right, on the right people at least. Don’t worry I know what a softy you are Varzoth, you’d do anything for us.” Varzoth blushed but tried to hide it.

“Ya, I’d do anything for you all.” Varzoth blushed once more and went to grab all the supplies they had been stolen of, and started their journey back to their village.

Now, after the whole Sword of Flame incident Varzoth was trying to get the whole guardians of the forge going. Which is harder than you’d think, since the entire group of the five guardians was found to be children. Three children who used to be enslaved by the Importants were chosen to help lead the demons to a new age, but they weren’t quite focusing as well as they could have been. Their names? I hope you already know them. Malakath, Zaroth, and Selene. They were chosen by the forge, one of the most powerful artifacts in Romania, and nobody is able to disobey the forge. Varzoth was the keeper of the forge. And if they were going to get this Guardians thing working they needed him for it.

Lilith knocked on the door of Varzoth’s room, “Hey, what’s ya working on?”

Varzoth jumped, but calmed when he saw it was Lilith. Then he saw it was Lilith and blushed. “Just trying to get the whole guardians of the forge thing together. We already have the members, but we don’t know what to do next. Azazel said I could look through the old files of the guardians, but it turns out they didn’t have paper back then and it’s all inscribed in stone tablets.” Varzoth motioned to a pile of stone bricks.

Lilith walked to Varzoth and the tablets, Varzoth hoped he wasn’t blushing as much anymore and focused on a few of the tablets that were in front of him. They all spoke about some kind of combined forge? Which didn’t make sense, there was only ever one forge. “What’s that?” Lilith asked, pointing to the tablet Varzoth had been staring at.

“Just a tablet that says for the guardians to be ‘approved’ they have to forge an object, but it doesn’t make sense. It says we must make a combined forge, which doesn’t make any  sense at all.” Varzoth hoped this would stay the subject, it was true, they had no idea how to create this combined forge. Varzoth had to go back into the, turns out, tunnels of files the guardians used to have and find new ones.

“So why don’t we try and do just that?” Lilith asked.

“Do what?” Varzoth was so lost in thought he’d forgotten everything.

“Why don’t we all try to forge something? The town could use a new well, maybe we could try and use it for that?” Lilith said.

Varzoth felt like every time Lilith said something she said something that could make him think of a way to fix things. “Yes we could, but it would only be the power source for the overall mechanism.”

Lilith nodded, “So how do we make the overall mechanism?” She asked, smiling.

She knew Varzoth had an idea, he could tell. He wanted to say no, but this was important. “I know how to make the overall mechanism, but you have to help me this time!”

Lilith put her hands up, “I’ve always helped!”

“You’ve helped, yes, but you’ve never helped plan it. Do you think you can help me plan it?” Varzoth asked, pleading she’d say yes. If she said no it was fine though, wait why was he thinking like this!

“Of course I’ll help you plan it, tomorrow morning sound good?” Lilith said with a smile.

Varzoth nodded, “Of course, no missions tomorrow.”

“Perfect, see you later!” She said,

Varzoth nodded as she walked out of his room, and that’s when he realized. He already missed her. What made this a thing!?
