Chosen Ones: Welcome to Magic

Chapter 1

Now, before you say anything about the titles of the Hero Files, just don’t. The Master Knight has made that perfectly clear. I’m Johnathan Brody, who is that you ask, why is he important? Has he been in any other files? Well, that one's true, but I’ll leave that for you to find. I was always a pretty troublesome kid, always causing problems, being them behavioral, structural, you name it I’ve been it. When you're introduced to the magical world, wow does that change. Trust me, magic changes everyone. When I say everyone, I really do mean everyone. Non-magical people get superpowers, monsters start showing up to destroy parts of cities, and people give up their lives for magic. It’s always had this strange effect to bring people into it, but I didn’t know that yet. Right now all I know is that I’m going to a school where I can focus my troublemaking into fighting stuff. The MDSC, or what I used to know it as. The Multi-Diverse School for Combat. Now I know it as… well you’ll see.

Johnathan Brody was a young thirteen year old, who had just been admitted to a school that taught combat! He couldn’t believe that he’d gotten into the school especially with his track record, he’d been kicked out of three schools in the last two years. He never found a place that really felt like he belonged, but now his parents were sending him to this school for combat. He’d always liked fighting, and like he’d said before he had a pretty bad track record. When the school approved his admission he was stunned, so were his parents. They all spent the whole day packing all of Jonathan's stuff for school, it was the works, notebooks, pencils. Once Johnathan had gotten all of his stuff ready, his parents told him to head toward bus MDSC 3584.

“Write to us every day.” Johnathan’s mother said.

“I will.”

“We’ll miss you.” His father said, “No messing up this time right?”

Johnathan started walking away, and waved. “No promises!” He ran to the bus stop, it was a small bus stop but people were always there. He looked at the road, there was a fenced off area to his left. Road work probably, and there was a dump truck next to it. That would probably slow their arrival. He put his headphones on. He figured the bus wouldn’t be here for a while, he kept listening to his music, somebody tapped his shoulder and he looked next to him. A boy about Johnathan’s age looked at him, Johnathan took off his headphones.

“Is this the right stop for the MDSC?” The boy asked, he had a British accent. Johnathan looked at him for a moment, then nodded.

“Ya, the road to a school I’ll only see for a week.” Johnathan said,

The boy with the British accent looked confused, and put his stuff down. Nobody was at the bus stop anymore, which felt weird. Normally there were people at this bus stop every day.

“Why only a week? The counsel wouldn’t allow that.” The boy said,

Johnathan looked confused, “The counsel?”

The boy was about to answer when a bus rolled up from the left side of the road, Johnathan looked to the left. The dump truck hadn’t moved, and the fenced off area hadn’t disappeared. Where did it come from? Its doors opened, and a man with earmuffs over his head opened the door.

“All aboard for the MDSC!” He yelled out, Johnathan didn’t see the reason why. He got on, and walked to the back of the bus. The other boy followed.

“What’s your name? We never were formally introduced.” He said,

“I’m Johnathan, and like I said you don’t need to learn my name. I’ll only be here for a week anyway.” He said,

“Oh well, I’m Albert Duncan. Pleasure.” He held out his hand, Johnathan took it. “I don’t know why you’d ever want to leave a school like this!” Said Albert.

Johnathan questioned the boy, “Why not?” He asked,

The boy held out his hand, and a floating light appeared in his hand. “Because it’s literally a school for magicians!” He looked at Johnathan, who was wide-eyed. “Oh, you didn’t know yet did you?”

Johnathan felt like he was in a loopty-loop on a roller coaster. This random kid, Albert, had just created a small light in his hand and was looking at Johnathan like it was usually a known subject.

“Wha… How… Why did a light just explode in your hand?” Asked Johnathan.

Albert winced, “Let the Mages tell you, they're great at their jobs!”

“What mages?” Johnathan said

Albert winced once more, “Oh, uh… Just wait until we get there.”

Johnathan shook his head, feeling something was going to come that he didn’t think he even wanted. “Nope! No way I’m doing this!” He jumped out of his seat, leaving his stuff where it was. He ran to the front of the bus to confront the bus driver, “Hey, um. I don’t think I’m supposed to be here, this is all cool, but I’m pretty sure you're all playing some kind of joke on me.”

The bus driver looked at him, “Get back in your seat kid, trust me, you don’t want to be standing for this part.”

The bus driver turned into an empty alleyway. “Wait! What part?” Suddenly the vision of the alleyway turned into a web of lights and force, making Johnathan fall to the back of the bus, once again being next to Albert.

“Oof, Are you ok?” Albert asked, looking entirely unfazed.

Johnathan got up, and climbed back into the seat he was in. “What is going on Albert!” Once he got fully onto his seat his center of gravity changed, and he was sitting in the seat, somehow unaffected by the weighing gravity that he just felt.

“Well, that was what I was trying to tell you about. The MDSC does not stand for Multi-Diverse School for Combat, it stands for Multi-Dimensional School for Combat and Magic.” Albert said, “The magic part we prefer not to say though.” Albert added.

“So, why am I going here?” Asked Johnathan.

Albert shrugged, “How should I know? Either you got here on purpose or the Master Knight hand picked you, and that’s almost impossible. You might need to talk to someone about this.”

Johnathan stared at him, “You think?” All of a sudden the bus stopped, and Johnathan slammed his nose into the seat in front of him. He already felt blood coming out, and he used his old hoody to use as a tissue.

Albert came to his side, “Oh, are you ok?” Albert opened a book, and shook it. “I don’t know any good healing spells to help that, we just got to go, maybe the mages can help you.” Johnathan tried to shake his head, but Albert got him up and carried him out of the bus. The bus driver gave them tissues on the way out, which still didn’t help out Johnathan’s problem very well, and they obscured his vision. He couldn’t see through the tissues at all. “Excuse me!” Albert yelled to someone, what was going on? Johnathan could feel the floor, he was pretty sure they were on a very smooth road. Suddenly he heard footsteps coming their way.

“Is he ok?” Someone asked.

“Ya, he just hurt his nose when we landed.” Landed? What was Albert talking about?

He heard the person making a tsk tsk sound, “I always told them they needed better transport magic.” A strange feeling then went over Johnathan’s face, at first it pained him even more, but eventually it became quite soothing. When the feeling was gone Johnathan took off the tissue, and looked up at the person who, somehow, fully healed his nose. They wore a long robe, which had strange patterns and symbols on them. They had blond hair and were smiling.

He nodded, “Thank you.”

She smiled, “No problem.” She said, “I’m Ms. Hatcher, I’m one of the teachers at the MDSC.”

Now that Johnathan could see, they were at a large airport with many other people in robes. Some had different robes then others, but all of them were helping other kids get into groups. “Are we going to fly there?” Johnathan asked.

Ms. Hatcher laughed, “No, we're going to get there using something much better.”
