Chromia, a small town located on the eastern coast of Australia, a simple boring town homed to around one thousand people. It was just any normal night as the tree dance in the cold breeze and the streetlights guided a few people working late. Today though was a bit special though as the monthly party was about to open its doors. During the month, the town would pick a theme for the party and this month theme was enchanted forest.
Tall pine trees swayed in the wind blocking the view of the old venue. Soon the sound of the car’s engine died off and teenage emerge from the car. A ‘have fun kid’ was reply with the simple ‘I will’. Lush green grass surrounded the rusting town hall whose paint started to peel away showing the old wood. Slowly, they made their closer noting the freshly trimmed bushes and the de-thorns roses. Though the neon lights drive your eyes from all the blemishes and stains that showed how old the town hall was. Flocking like moth to a flame, a crowd of people enter the hall wearing a range of different outfits. Some were elves or wearing flowers and some just simple everyday outfit.
Standing outside the large townhall, is a kid with long platinum blonde hair wearing seafoam dress. Quietly, they stood shivering as their dress gave little protection from the freezing night wind. “Viper!” A loud booming voice announce over the music filtering to the outside. “Roxanna,” the kid whisper under their breathe as their eyes darted around to find the source of the voice. Meeting the taller young girl’s eyes, they smiled and strode over. “What are you doing here all alone?”
“Waiting for other so show up,” Viper said as their eyes wander around to see if they saw any familiar faces. “Did you think they were going to get lost in the hall or something,” Roxanna asked as she also scanned the small crowd. Roxanna finally meets with Viper eyes again to see their eyebrow raised and them crossing their arms. “Oh, come on they aren’t that bad”, Viper raised their eyebrow more. “Fine they are that bad.”
“Hopefully they arrive soon its freezing out here.”
“And the worst part its only in summer.”
“Winter going to kill us,” Roxanna laughed at their misery. Chromia is a place in the lower part of Queensland so the chill in the air is expected.
Soon three familiar faces strode on the lawn, all in their respective outfits. “Look what the cat drags in,” Roxanna glared at the three people. “Hey, were only,” she looks at her watch, “20 mins late.”
“You left poor Viper to stand in the freezing wind all alone how could you.”
“You only arrived a few minutes before them Roxanna.”
“Sorry Viper I had to get the love birds ready,” the other girl said. She is smaller than Roxanna yet taller than Viper.
After talking for a short while, they made their way into the town hall. They were great by having music blasted at them and way too bright lights flash at them. The party could last up to one hour to five they really never had schedule. Viper pushes the two ‘love birds’ (Ritche and Devin) together to get the group some drinks as the other moved to the fourth floor. Most of the people were located on the first, second and third floor leaving the group mostly alone. They would go on the fifth floor, but all the seniors go up there to get black out drunk, so it is always reeking of vomit, smoke and other putrid smells. Most windows on the fifth, fourth and third floors were stain glass only a few had normal windows, but they were bolted in. Unknown though to many is that on the fourth window the group had unbolted one of the windows.
Cream paint peeled off the rooting wood and freshly white paint was painted over to hide yet in the end it looks very blotchy. Viper lent against one of the many stains glass this one showed a white rose that thorns dripped what seemed to poison. Viper smiled as their pale fingers traced the patterns of the rose. “So, what do think of the new kids?”
“The ones from Rivendell?” Ritche asked as dropped of the five drink down on one of desks pulling and out a chair and brushing off some dust before sitting on it.
“Yeah, they are so~,” Bri sat upon a desk, “weird I guess.”
“Weird is understatement of the year!” Roxanna exclaimed as she picks a book off one of many bookshelves. “They’re just downright creepy.”
“I wouldn’t say creepy just mysterious,” Devin replied as he also leant against a stain glass this one was a red rose. “And I mean you would be acting weird if your school got burnt down.”
“Yeah, the bushfire got them pretty hard, didn’t it?” Ritchie his fingers tracing the groves of the chair.
Blazing fires and the destruction that they lead was nothing new to Australia, but the aftermath was always horrible. This time a small town just west of Chromia caught fire destroying many homes and the school. Chromia being a loving community reach out to the now distraught townsfolk of Rivendell. Soon most were homed and now the kids went to their school, but they were outsiders.
“Do you think some of the people are here?”
“Probably, I mean this event is meant to bring the community closer.” Bri replied as she looks down at the lush garden below lit up by the silver moon. Wandering around the garden, was a few different faces all who were familiar to Bri. “Hey, Bri, any love birds?”
“Jeremy and
Elena ~”
“Seriously? Those two, whoa I didn’t see
that coming,” Her tone did not hide her sarcasm “Well, I ship it,” Viper cut in
as they peered down at the garden looking the familiar caramel hair and raven
long hair. Upon seeing them saw them kissing right under the moonlight in the
centre of the garden. The group dub it the ‘love maker circle’. It was
surrounding around tall dark green roses bushes meaning to the naked eye no one
could see you. Well unless you where on the fourth floor at went to the office
#4 which the perfect angle to see right in. “Of course, I bet you were the one that hooked
them up.”
“Who knows~”
“Come on Vi, spill the tea,” Devin sweetly asked as he grew closer. “The secret master never tells a soul.”
“You and your secrets,” Devin huff crossing his arms and hi red eyes wander down to the garden. Devin stood just short of Viper making him the shortest in the group. Carmel like hair shined in the moonlights and highlighting the crimson streak in hi hair. Blazing blood eyes stared down at the lush dark green garden like it would catch fire. “Do you know something,” Viper whisper so the other three don’t here. “Something,” his voice was laced with malice that gave Viper the shivers. “Should I know about it?”
“Just know J secrets.”
Crimson blazing eyes meet soft silver shining eyes. Devin’s tension left him as Viper gave him a hug like a warm bear. “If you want, I can destroy him,” Viper voice filled with venom.
“No, I want the world to crash around him without any intervention.”
“Guys someone brought alcohol to the party~”
“Roxanna no!”
“Roxanna yes!”
Before Viper could stop the energic Roxanna she pocketed her phone and dragged Ritchie down back to the main floor. “Why am I getting drag alone!”
“Because you like your liquor, and you can’t deny it!” Soon the raven hair girl and the deep ocean hair boy left, voices still echoing down the hall. Viper strolled over to where Ritchie left the first round of drinks and pick out a coke. “Well Devin shouldn’t you follow you boyfriend~”
“He isn’t my boyfriend VIPER!”
“Are you totally sure,” Viper slurped loudly, “because I mean you are totally already acting like a married couple.”
“I hate you Viper,” Devin huffed and have a death stare (A very stuffed giggle could be heard as Bri wander out of the room). “Oh, you love me Devin”
“Go die!”
“Okay, just make sure they don’t drink too much! I don’t want it in the bathroom and hear them vomit for hour again,” Viper shouted as Devin marched out of the room. “Whatever!”
Viper stood alone basking in the moonlight like an actor with the spotlight. Viper soon left quietly shutting the door.
Creaking like nail on a corkboard, a rusty rotten door slowly open to reveal a month worth of dust leak out. Viper guided over to meet the largest stain glass window in the ancient town hall. There was not overall picture nor pattern on the glass just random swirls and blotches. Colours melted into each other like a rainbow sunset and mix around like paint. Beauty was in the eye of the beholder.
Viper finger gently trance and followed the colours. Screams, shouts and singing managed to echoed in the empty from the first and second floor. Viper dragged a chair to sit in front of the glass looking upon the front garden bustling with life. Viper was now on the third floor which held a mini museum of the town history. This room was meant to be locked tight as the room was deemed a cursed room after the town leader was murder in the room. Curiosity always killed the cat so a few months ago the kid found the key and open to see the ‘cursed’ room. Blinding colours filled their view, the sliver moon’s light filter through the stain glass making the room blossom with colour.
Ever since then, they enter the stunning room for each monthly party.
*Knock… Knock…Knock*
“Viper?”
Emerging from the shadow, a tall raven hair girl shyly enters the room. Warm grey eyes meet cold sliver eyes. “Elena is something wrong?”
“I… I just needed to talk to someone,” Elena eyes bore holes into ground. Slowly, she wanders closer to the stain glass fiddling with her fingers. “How are you, Elena?” Viper spinned around with a cheery smile holding out their hands. Closing the final distance, Elena collapsed in Viper hands melting into the warm hug. Ice like tears leak out of Elena’s eyes as she clutched Viper’s lush green dress like if she let go, she would die. Weeping into Viper chest, Elena slipped nonsense out her mouth as she tried to form a sentence. Gently, Viper rub circles on her back whisper sweet nothing into her ears. Soon the echoes so sops drifted away, and the tears stain started to dry leaving marks on her sickly pale cheeks.
“Sorry you have to see me like this.” Viper only smile at the older yet smaller teenager. Dark circles like blockhole laid right underneath her eyes and her cheekbones poking out. Warm silver eyes now stain with mascara running down her cheeks dripping on to the marble floor. “It’s okay Elena I’m always here.”
“I just seem to stomach anything!” Elena screamed but not at Viper but the voices that plagued her mind. “I thought I was getting better, and you help fix my relate ship with Jeremy.” Viper slightly cringe at that as something was happening with Devin and Jeremy; that was for future Viper to deal with. “Its fine, these things don’t go overnight. It takes years for you to heal and that fine but promise you try and at least stomach small things then move on to bigger things.”
Elena stared her short pale red dress that pop off her pale skin. “Okay,” Elena murmured. “Man, this really push into my time.” Viper stated they look at the rusty located parrel to the door grandfather clock.
“I owe you so much,” Elena voice broke as she pushed away from the hug. “I promise that I help you with anything you need.”
“Well, you try and eat more and do thing you love,” Viper cheerly said as they leaned against the glass. “No, I really mean it!”
“Ok, ok see
you later Elena!”
Elena strained a smile as they left.
Viper smile turned to malice smirk as she lifted her to stare at the moon. “Another pawn to use,” Viper voiced to no one.
Music boomed throughout the hall, with the distance sounds of screams and shouts mostly block out. Normally, Viper would join the party by now, but their feet were glued to the ground staring down upon the garden like a hawk. They fiddle with the cuffs of their selves as to older boy scream and punch each other. It was the usually ‘you flirt with my girl’ thing but Viper didn’t bother it too much.
They spotted Roxanna cheering on the fight; she probably caused the fight.
Humming to the music they wander their eyes to the door that laid innocently in front of them.
“AAAHHHH!” A Bloody scream pierce through music forcing Viper to violently span around to meet themselves with…
Time seemed to freeze as screams, music, lights everything stopped. Viper eyes locked on the warm silver eyes still red from crying and her pale skin glowing in the illumined by the moonlight. Crimson stained the lighter red dress like paint splatter on her. Her eyes pleaded to live as their eyes meet. Looking through the stain glass Viper saw Elena plummeted to the unforgiving ground below. And as people useless charge to catch her. And all Viper thought was ‘Why didn’t I know my pawn was going to die’.
