For weeks now I have been having a dream, and like a window into another world I'm seeing a story unfold, or maybe I should say the end of one. An armoured man has been fighting in a battlefield full of corpses and blood. I could smell the rich iron smell, see the rivers of blood, hear what sounded like mangled vultures gnawing. It was overwhelming.
Though even with the horrifying view all I could focus on is that man, in pure black armour. Everytime a new battalion came, he slaughtered them. Only recently had I seen the reason as to what he was doing.
An orb, that's all I could describe it as. It hurt to look at, because while it seemed real and present, it didn’t have any colour. Not just that it was black, no it was like a part of the universe my mind refused to see.
But every time I dreamt he was there protecting it, his exhaustion evident even in his walk. Why was he doing this, to push himself to the grave just to protect… whatever that orb is.
Merial POV
Waking up it seemed like any other dream, but at the same time I remembered it perfectly fine, my mind never forgot it like other dreams. But I still had to go to university so I quickly pushed it to the back of my mind and went to the bathroom to wash up.
For some reason looking into my mirror and looking at my green eyes and brown hair pissed me off. Not that I hated how I looked, it just pissed me off. But again i pushed it to the back of my mind and finished washing up then prepared for going to class.
The short walk from my dorm to the campus classrooms was interrupted by some annoying… ‘Person’ I call a friend.
“Hey Leon, I see you’re as ugly as ever.” I wryly said. Leon wasn’t a particularly intelligent person, i still wonder who he payed off to be able to get into university
“You speak a lot about my looks but honestly I'm fine with them. I don’t see what your problem is.” Leon said with some curiosity.
As we walked through the door into the lecture hall I looked at him and said. “You’re kidding right? Punching your face would probably crack a few bones into the right position.”
Despite my teasing he wasn’t actually that ugly, but he wasn’t good looking either. Just middle of the road.
While looking for a seat I liked in the back, it seemed that all of them were already taken so I was begrudgingly forced to sit in one of the middle rows. Another one of my friends saw me and excitedly walked over to us.
“How do you stay so giddy all the time Ella?” I asked while she sat down beside Leon and I. Ella was a sweet little girl full of energy, which of course meant she was scary when she was angry but at the same time it always made for fun stories.
“Oh sorry I’m not all gloomy all the time.” she said while somewhat pouting.
After we all sat down our professor started his class which just so happened to be some physics experiment with a heavy ball smashing his face or something. But after he used his non-smashed face as evidence for the laws of thermodynamics I fell asleep. I knew I could just revise it later so I didn't really care about what was actually said.
