Monday mornings at the police station were rarely a source of excitement. As the detectives filed into the cramped briefing meeting room, the atmosphere was thick with a palpable sense of reluctance. Some struggled to stifle yawns, their minds still clouded with the remnants of sleep, while others fidgeted nervously, dreading the prospect of being called out on unfinished work.
But for Jisung, the young omega detective known for his exceptional intellect, Mondays held a special allure. He had joined the force only a few months ago, yet his remarkable talent for solving cases had already earned him a reputation as the best detective in the precinct. On his very first day, he had cracked several high-priority cases in record time, leaving his colleagues in a state of awe and disbelief.
The station chief strode to the front of the room, Jisung sat up straight, his eyes shining with anticipation. He loved the thrill of a new challenge, the opportunity to unravel the complexities of a baffling case and bring those responsible to justice.
“Alright, everyone, settle down,” the chief said, his weathered face etched with a hint of weary resignation. “I know you're all eager to get back out there and put your skills to the test, so let's get started.”
He began to rattle off a list of new assignments, pairing up detectives and outlining the details of each case. Jisung listened intently, his mind already racing with theories and strategies, but as the chief continued down the list, he couldn't help but feel a growing sense of disappointment.
“And finally, Jisung,” the chief said, his gaze meeting the young detective's. “I've got a particularly challenging one for you.”
Jisung leaned forward, his heart pounding with excitement. This was the moment he had been waiting for a chance to truly showcase his skills. “What is it, sir?” he asked, unable to hide the eager curiosity in his voice.
The chief paused, a thoughtful expression crossing his weathered features. “It's the blood diamond case,” he said solemnly. “The one that's been eluding us for months.”
A murmur rippled through the room as the other detectives exchanged knowing glances. Some whispered that it was cursed, while others believed it was simply a matter of time before someone cracked it open.
The chief spook up as everyone looked at him. “It's a complex web of diamond theft, drug dealing, and a criminal mastermind who has evaded capture. We have minimal information, and the few leads we had dried up months ago. It's putting our station's reputation in real danger. A criminal mastermind, had managed to stay one step ahead of the law.”
Jisung's heart raced as he processed the magnitude of this case. The infamous blood diamond case was his opportunity to prove himself once and for all, to demonstrate his worth not only to his colleagues but to his father, a retired detective with high expectations.
“I won't let you down, sir,” Jisung said, his voice brimming with confidence. “This case will be solved, and justice will be served.”
The chief nodded, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. “I have no doubt about that, Jisung. That's why I'm entrusting this case to you.” He handed the young detective a thin file, its contents sparse. “All we have are a few witness accounts and some circumstantial evidence. It's a puzzle, Jisung, and it's up to you to piece it together.”
Jisung's fingers traced the smooth surface of the file, his determination burning bright. As the other detectives filed out of the room, he remained seated, his mind already spinning with potential leads and strategies.
Later that evening, Jisung was still in the office, poring over the scant evidence, his brow furrowed in concentration. He had already started putting information on the red-stained board linking places on the map.
But Jisung was undaunted. He had a keen eye for detail, an analytical mind that could unravel even the most tangled of cases, and a dogged determination that had served him well in the past.
As he reviewed the witness statements, a small detail caught his eye, a mention of a high end jewelry store that had been targeted by the diamond thieves. Jisung's fingers flew across the keyboard, pulling up records and cross-referencing the information.
“Aha!” he exclaimed, a triumphant grin spreading across his face. “There has to be a connection.”
He delved deeper, tracing the ownership of the jewelry store and any potential links to the drug dealers and diamond smugglers. writing everything in his notebook.
Just as he was about to call it a night, a knock on the door startled him. He looked up to see one of the security guards.
“Jisung, I thought I'd find you here,” the man said, a wry smile on his face. “Working late again, I see.”
Jisung chuckled, running a hand through his tousled hair. “You know me, Baekhyun. I can't resist a good mystery.”
Baekhyun nodded, his expression turning serious. “I heard that you took the blood diamond case. Tough one, huh?”
Baekhyun has worked there for a very long time and has witnessed the success of detectives’ in solving cases and even their failures like the blood diamond case. He knows that Jisung might or might not change that.
“That's an understatement,” Jisung replied, leaning back in his chair. “and I'm determined to uncover it.”
Baekhyun's eyes widened. “Well, if anyone can crack this case, it's you. Just don't work yourself to the bone, okay? We need you to be sharp and focused.”
Jisung smiled gratefully. “Thanks, Baekhyun. I appreciate the concern.”
“Good night,” Baekhyun said, receiving a good night before leaving Jisung collecting his things before leaving.

Jisung was deep into the blood diamond case when his loud and cheerful newfound friend -his office mate-, the omega Minsoo, strolled into the office late, as usual. Messy blond hair, sunglasses perched on top of his head, and a stack of files under his arm completed his usual 'I just woke up' look.
“Sungie! My favorite partner in crime!” Minsoo announced, his voice echoing through the office and grabbing the attention of their colleagues.
Jisung looked up from the stack of papers on his desk, a small smile tugging at his lips. “Morning, Minsoo.” He said, his gaze flickering momentarily to the sunglasses, “uh... why are you wearing sunglasses inside?”
Minsoo whipped off the sunglasses with a dramatic flourish, grinning. “Oh, these? They’re not just glasses, they’re a shield. My dazzling charm is too much for the miserable people inside this station to handle,” he said dramatically. Then, leaning in with a sly smile, he added, “But enough about me. I heard you’re on the blood diamond case. How’s it going?”
Jisung tilted his head, he doesn't remember telling Minsoo, and Minsoo didn't come to the office till today. “How did you know about that?”
Minsoo laughed nervously, rubbing the back of his neck. “You know, we have a work chat group. They mentioned it there,” he explained, a sheepish grin on his face. “I could add you if you want?”
Jisung waved a hand dismissively. “Nah, I’m good. Too many notifications.” He said, his attention returning to the case file.
“Fair enough,” Minsoo hummed, his smile never wavering “Sooo, any updates on the case? Got a lead yet?” Plopping into the chair across from Jisung.
Jisung let out a frustrated sigh, a faint crease appearing between his brows. “Not yet. Everything’s a dead end so far, but I’ll figure it out.” He paused, his gaze narrowing as he studied his friend. “You skipped the morning meeting again, didn’t you? Another late-night date? ‘adventure’?”
Minsoo rolled his eyes dramatically, leaning back in his chair. “What can I say? Spreading my unique kind of sunshine and joy to these miserable souls early in the morning would be of no use,” he said, ignoring Jisung's question, his dimples deepening as he nodded. “I also heard that you might need some help with this case. Lucky for you, I’m here with my genius theory.”
Jisung raised a skeptical eyebrow, a hint of amusement sparkling in his eyes. “Great theory, huh? Well, I think I could use a fresh perspective. Would you like to share one of these ‘genius’ theories?”
Minsoo sprang to his feet, walking over to Jisung's desk and standing directly in front of him, his facial expression turning into fake seriousness. “First, we need to look at the psychological profile of the diamond thief,” he declared. “They say diamonds are a girl's best friend, right? So maybe we're dealing with a female thief. Or maybe it's a man with a lot of girlfriends to impress.” He paused, clearly expecting applause.
Jisung couldn’t hold back a laugh, covering his mouth. “Creative, I’ll give you that. But do you have any other theories?”
Minsoo’s eyes lit up. “Tons!” he exclaimed excitedly. “What if the thief is skilled at stealth, changing his appearance with every robbery. Or maybe he has an inside connection to someone in law enforcement. It's all very interesting!”
“Interesting,” Jisung said, humoring him. “But let's focus on the facts now. Is there any actual evidence we can work with?”
Minsoo's smile faded slightly, and he scratched his head. “Well, I can't help but think that my mind works in mysterious ways. But let's see what we have.” He opened the case file and found only one piece of paper. He tossed the file behind him, sending it fluttering to the ground. “Ugh, papers are useless! Intelligence is in the brain, so use it and solve the case.” He jabbed two fingers at his forehead for emphasis.
Jisung blinked a few times, as minsoo sat him back in his chair. “That’s what I was thinking.” Rushing to pick up the file. “Now I understand why they didn't hand you the case.” He teased.
“HEY!! What do you mean? I'm the one who didn't want to take it. okay? I let them give it to you. Out of the kindness of my heart.” Minsoo crossed his arms and turned his head to the side with an exaggerated pout on his lips, eliciting a chuckle from Jisung.
Jisung chuckled, shaking his head. “Sure, sure.”
Minsoo watched as Jisung reorganized the papers. After a moment, “Ohhh, by the way,” his expression shifted to one of mock innocence. “Suno and the others are waiting for you to go to the crime scene... I forgot to tell you.” His voice lowered in the last sentence.
Jisung's eyes widened, and he jumped to his feet, a panicked expression on his face. “What? When? Why didn't you tell me sooner?” he exclaimed, hurriedly gathering his things.
Minsoo grinned sheepishly. “Oops, they told me earlier, but I figured there was no rush. I told them I’d pass the message along.”
“Minsoo!” Jisung exclaimed, jumping to his feet. He hastily grabbed his coat and bag. “I’ve been sitting here waiting for them to call!”
“My bad,” Minsoo said, shrugging. “My memory isn’t my strongest suit.”
Jisung shot him a withering glare. “Next time, just tell me immediately. I swear…”
As Jisung rushed toward the door, Minsoo called after him, “Don’t forget to grab coffee on your way back! I like mine sweet!”
Jisung didn’t bother replying, though he was pretty sure he heard Minsoo laughing as the door swung shut behind him.
