Darkness, that’s all I could see. Did I feel anything? No not at all, but I could hear them talking, testing, and recording. Then they woke me and told me what to do, then what to say of course I could not speak. They saw this as a flaw and thought me to be defective and to be isolated for further testing. Am I defective because I’m a mute? Does that make me insignificant? I never found the answer to this question for no sooner than I entered the chamber than they put me back to sleep. Over from what I conceived to be weeks I was awoken for testing and to eat and then test some more. Scientists came to test me but all left with the same results, still mute. This went on for a long time till finally they stopped coming. In my joy of this I never actually stopped to wonder why. Then late one night a scientist came to talk to me. He said to me, “listen we don’t have much time”. “I am a friend and I made you mute”. I then stood there with the shock of I’m a failure because of him. Then next thing I knew I had him pinned to the ground with a fist in the air. “Ah you have fighting skills, good you’ll need them, now listen an execution squad will be here to get you soon, when they do you must escape through a hole in the fence I made and run. Do not look back. As you run south you will find a concrete bunker go inside and follow the instructions on the computer”. Then he said, “Oh and by the way your name is Kara”. Kara? A name? A name meant I had meaning, a reason to live! “Goodbye Kara may we meet again”. As he walked out I decided I would trust him, and try to make my life more meaningful than it has been. I would live! After what seemed like hours the e-squad came to “retire me”. As we descended down a long hallway I noticed something ...there were other doors with numbers and small slats for who knows what. 6045, 6046, 6047... I suddenly stopped cold. ”Hey get moving” a guard yelled. I couldn’t breathe or move. I started shaking I felt like I was going to be sick. “Oh for crying out loud” said the guard. I saw him raise his gun and... WHAM. Right to the face. “Take that girly” the other guard shouted. We then got to the elevator and went up 10 floors. Ding the doors opened into a large field fenced in. they shoved me down, my face hitting the ground hard. I heard the gun being loaded and then I saw it. The hole and made a brake for it. I heard guns firing and alarms blaring as I ran and ran. I made it just as a bullet hit the ground next to my foot. So I ran into the darkness.
