Each others eternity

Over the years

Over the years

May 25, 2026

“Come on, wait for me! I can’t run that fast!”

The girl laughed as a young boy chased after her trying to catch up, her tan skin glistening in the burning sun with sweat as her piercing blue eyes caught on a figure approaching them.

The girl slowed to a stop near the walls of Uruk, still watching the person approaching them.

The moment she made out the details of the girl she laughed overjoyed as she recognized her. She was a short young woman with dark brown hair and caramel skin slightly darker than the other girls, her eyes a brilliant green colour.

“It's great to see you again my starlight,” she said with a small smile tugging on her lips.

“Hyacinth!” the blue-eyed girl laughed, running up to her old friend and embracing her. “Ohh it's been too long, where have you been? I missed you so much!”

Hyacinth chuckled “Well, first of all, it's Inanna now,” She pulled away looking her starlight in the eyes. “Second I'm sorry I kept you waiting for so long, I ran into some trouble on the way”

Her starlight looked her in the eyes, mirth dancing in her eyes, “Well, I'm glad you are here. I almost thought you forgot our promise”

The little boy ran up to the two women confused, “Who is this, Sin?” he asked, looking at the blue-eyed girl.

Sin laughed, a beautiful ringing sound that made something flutter in Inanna's heart.

“This is my betrothed.”

“Ok so you have been here at least since Mesopotamia” a strawberry blond boy with hazelnut eyes and pale skin questioned, as he leaned on the railing right next to her.

A young adult girl with dark dark skin, ginger curly hair that turned red at the tips, and ice-blue eyes leaned on the balcony railing as she recounted the story to her friend.

The redhead chuckled as she looked over the sprawling city bursting with life and light, “far longer than that. The two of us have existed for longer than the universe itself has” she said, smiling wistfully

“Cool cool cool that's not worrying at all,” a loud laugh cut off the boy's existential crisis.

A tall girl with long ginger hair and ice blue eyes fluttered around the market.

She joked and laughed with the merchants as another shorter woman with long blond hair and emerald green eyes looked through their stocks when suddenly both of them stopped in their tracks.

If anyone was watching them closely they would notice the deep worry in the blue eyes and the careful resignation in her green eyed compation as they looked at each other in a silent debate.

The blond shook her head, going back to examining an apple seemingly trying to ignore whatever made her companion worry so deeply. The redhead stared at her friend in shock before running away from the town.

The blue-eyed girl looked over the city sitting on a hill seeming deep in thought as the green-eyed woman approached her.

“Are you alright, my starlight?” She asked not trying to hide the concern in her eyes.

The other girl scoffed, turning away from her lover “How can you be okay with this Kore? We know those people. We spent years by their side. How can you justify their deaths to yourself?!” She almost screamed, her brilliant blue eyes filling with tears.

Kore looked at the ground her entire body still but her face betraying the blond's conflicted feelings “There’s nothing we could do to help them”

“We could warn them” The redhead stated, turning to look at her lover defiantly.

Kore frowned, her shoulders shaking as she sucked in a heavy breath.

“THEY WOULD CHASE US AWAY WITH FIRE AND SWORDS THE SECOND THEY FOUND OUT WHAT WE ARE WHY WE KNEW THEY WERE DESTINED TO DIE WHY CAN'T YOU JUST LISTEN FOR ONCE AND PLACE YOURSELF ABOVE THOSE ANIMALS!” She shouted, her eyes filled with tears as she stared at her starlight.

The redhead's face went carefully blank as she looked at her lover and sighed “They aren't animals and if you can't understand that,” her voice shook as she looked over the city again:

“I think we need some time apart again.”

Kore stared at the girl she loved for a moment before she turned and left, running away from the city of Pompei as fast as her human legs would allow, tears escaping her eyes.

“Wouldn’t talking it out be better than just splitting up at the first sign of trouble?” the blond wondered aloud.

“Probably,” the girl deadpanned, still focused on the city. “But well, at that point splitting up became our way of dealing with our issues, giving us time to mull it over and calm down. . When you have eternity a few hours or even years apart is nothing and splitting up allowed us to talk it out without exploding at each other. We have split up for far more insignificant reasons than that. Sometimes it wasn't even because of an argument, just because we each wanted to visit different parts of the world and spend time with different mortals, ya know?” she looked over at the brown-eyed boy.

“I really don't, considering the whole mortal thing I have going on” he deadpanned, making his friend laugh again.

“Yeah, poor choice of words.” She sighed, getting her thoughts back in order. “In hindsight splitting up just made some of our issues worse, since admittedly some of our arguments were very petty”

“Oh, like the cheese incident?” he said with a shit-eating grin watching the redhead squirm.

“That goat had it coming.”

Two armies mixed and matched on the battlefield, blood staining the green field as their weapons clinked against each other, every soldier lost in their dance of metal and blood. In the middle of the area, two women met, locking eyes as blue recognizes green once again.

A tall red-haired woman with piercing blue eyes gazes into the never-changing catlike green irises of her lover, whose long flowing blond hair was replaced with shorter raven locks.

“Where have you been? I missed you so much.” She repeats the words she spoke all those years ago with a mirth filled smile as she ruthlessly charged at the raven-haired woman, her sword firmly gripped in her hands.

“Just travelling around my starlight,” she says, a warm smile playing on her lips as she  dodged around the other woman's strike and swiftly strikes at her lover's legs.

“Though I must say the amount of hoops I had to jump through to be allowed on the battlefield almost made me consider taking on a male form, I was only stopped by everyone already knowing me as Kathrin.”

The other girl lets out a joy-filled laugh that once again makes something wonderful dance in Kathrins heart.

"I'm glad to know you finally made some human friends,” she exclaimed, jumping around her lover's blade, striking at her head in retaliation with a smooth practised motion that took out two unfortunate soldiers that got too close to their dance.

“Why are you fighting on the French side anyway? I thought you hated them,” Kathrin questions, weaving around the blade’s arch in a few easy steps, using the motion of her body to ready another strike.

“Not more than I hate the English.” The redhead laughed as she hit the green-eyed girl's sword before she could attack again, knocking it out of her hand and in a smooth motion raising her sword back up to her lover's neck.

“Though I might make an exception if a pretty girl agreed to a date with me after this whole ordeal is done.” She flashed a cocky grin at the other girl, mirth still dancing in her eyes as the few loose hairs from her intricate braids gave her a wild look.

“Oh, I'm sure any girl would love to spend the night in the company of such a beautiful and interesting woman such as yourself,” Kathrin quipped as she picked her sword back up. “What about your human friends? Wouldn't they be sad about your betrayal?”

The redhead's cocky grin suddenly turned sheepish and unsure as she mumbled under her breath “I may or may not have snuck in at the last moment because I noticed you were getting ready in the camp and I didn’t know how else to approach you”

Kathrin couldn’t help but laugh as she ran forward side by side with her starlight, looking for where they could help in this fight. “Why am i not surprised "

“Wait, so how many wars have you two fought in?” the blond boy asked, staring at his companion as if the sad eyes with which she looked at the city held the answers to all of the world's questions.

“Any that we were close enough to to get on the battlefield. At the end of the day we are just two people, we can get tired of fighting or be in a different place to the conflict taking place. So there were many wars we didn’t participate in. But I did always like fighting,” the redhead said, looking up at the sky covered in stars as a small smile played on her lips.

“It’s one of the many ways me and Kat were different. She always preferred to solve her conflicts verbally, rather than with a sword in hand.” The smile fell off her lips as she reminisced about her lover.

“It’s something I always loved and admired about her, since while her temper has always been short, she never went for a punch or a kick. She always tried to talk things through.” Her now sombre eyes looked back down at the city, head filled with thoughts so heavy it almost felt like they were dragging her head down onto her folded hands “she only ever joined wars because she knew how much I loved them.”

“What did she mean by taking on a male form?” he asked trying to bring the light mood of the conversation back.

The ginger looked over at her friend remembering she had yet to explain this part of her and her lover's existence. “Well the two of us can change or form at will-”  WHAT?” the blond yelled, the fact that no matter how human his friend looked at the end of the day they were both very different beings practically slapping him in the face once more.

“It’s not like you’re imagining it. I’m not able to perfectly replicate how you look or just shift from form to form willy-nilly” she sighed thinking of the right words as her friend continued staring at her.

“We can change facets of our bodies, for example I could make my hair turn a different colour” as she said that her ginger locks turned a sick green colour.

“The thing is this is not my ‘true form’ so it's hard for me to hold, since I have to focus on not reversing back,” she said, playing with her hair as it slowly turned back to bouncy ginger locks.

“That’s a weird way to phrase it”

“No not really, in most of your books and shows shapeshifters have to focus to shift forms and that's it right? Well for me i have to focus to not transform back. Staying in a different form is completely effortless, it's just uncomfortable. It's like when I'm in a form that’s not my “true form” I have this constant itch that I have to focus on not scratching. ” she sighed again looking her friend in the eyes “of course there are things about myself I can’t change like my height and my eye colour but other than that it's mostly practice though kat has always been way better at it than me”

“That raises an interesting question: how did the two of you recognize each other?”

The girl smiled wistfully “We could sense each other in a way, no matter the time place or our form or clothing we could always recognize each other"

The bustling room was filled with music and conversation as Geishas and Maikos entertained the guests. Sake flowed as many of the officials gossiped among each other.

Yet one of the most talked about topics wasn't the usual rumours running amok but the two geishas currently performing on the small stage.

Not because of the grace of the unusually tall one dancing nor the musical prowess of her still tall but much shorter companion. No it was because of the unusual colour of their eyes. At the end of the day on the nihon isle blue and green eyes were practically unheard of.

Over the course of the night as they continued performing a few patrons were able to catch the smiles they threw at each other in between yet none thought about them too hard as the night drew to a close there were none left to call them out as they drew closer to each other.

“You were right i really do love it here” the blue eyed one whispered into her companion ear as they walked back to their rooms “Though it was a hassle getting here”

Her companion smiled “glad to know you are having fun, I always had a strange sort of kinship with this place. Can’t really explain it”

Her friend stalled for a second clearly stuck in thought “well I guess your true form does look a lot like the people of this land. I always felt a sort of fondness for the lands where Akkad used to be.” She smiled “maybe its just finding the closest thing to home we have”

Her friend smile grew wider as she leaned in even closer to her companions face than she was before now being able to smell the slight sting of sake on her breath “My home is wherever you are my love”

The girl blushed stuttering as she almost made both herself and her companion fall. They continued on their journeys now laughing softly.

“Huh that actually raises many questions” the boy stated staring at his friend in deep thought “i mean how were your true forms decided? What even are you?”

“Dunno”

“WHAT?!” The redhead startled clutching onto the railing

“I said i don’t know, never really thought about it that much” she smiled ignoring her friends befuddled expression “We are alive we are immortal and as far as i am aware me and my betrothed are the only two of our kind”

the boy stayed silent staring as his friend grew nervous “The fuck”
