Emily gazed out the bedroom windows, longing to feel the cool air brushing her skin, longing to feel the grass beneath her feet.
She had considered opening the windows and climbing out, however, the girl had realized that the windows had a lock and the key was in her mothers' possession.
Then her mind drifted off to when her false mother threatened to behead her by slamming the window down on her neck and even showed her an example, holding a plastic doll that made an eerie resemblance to Emily herself.
And Emily watched as the pale woman that had her face piled with makeup grabbed a key from one of her pockets, proceeding to unlock the golden lock that kept the window from being opened to place the figure in between the windowsill only to slam the windows shut, resulting in the doll snapping in two.
This haunted Emily for many weeks no matter how ridiculous she told herself it was, unable to sleep until three in the morning.
But now, Emily noticed that the lock was left unlocked.
this is it she told herself, this is the moment I wake everyone up by failing to escape quietly and I get chopped up.
The girl skimmed her eyes across the room, searching for anything that could be of use.
It didn't seem that there was anything essential to her survival though, except for the backpack that had a high capacity, making up for its age.
So Emily slung the bag over her shoulder and pushed open the windows a bit too roughly, resulting in the bushes nearby to rustle loudly.
Luckily, there were no noises that indicated that anyone had woken up, not even a quiet groan. The girl decided to continue trying to exit the house, one foot at a time.
Or one limb.
Emily ended up in an awkward dog position, her head five centimeters from the ground.
Finally, she managed to stand up, closing the windows before turning around and sprinting right towards freedom.
