In this life, there are classes that separate people in society: either you are born with powers linked to nature, being called a witch (or wizard), or you are born with a second gender. The second gender is an instinctive inheritance – traces of a past where humans and animals shared the same natural rhythm. Some are born with the instinct for leadership, dominance, and physical strength; others with neutrality; and others with extreme sensitivity and empathy, most often weak and submissive.
These three variations became established in the species as a reflection of nature: the predator, the adaptable, and the protector. Or as we know them: alphas, betas, and omegas. In past times, this second gender manifested itself through transmutation, meaning it was not uncommon to walk the streets among animals. However, thanks to advances in technology, the world has developed in such a way that those born with a second gender do not need to change their form.
Furthermore, as observed in studies of renowned wizards and witches, there is a thread that connects everyone, regardless of their relationship, and that reveals even the deepest and most hidden feelings. According to them, all of this is according to the Goddess’s plans. Not every witch can see the threads, so there isn’t much research on the subject. But the threads exist. And, well, there are clearly those who deny such connections, and most of the time it works… although it is difficult to find another partner again.
Those with magical powers were a minority in the world. Their numbers were dwindling, as over the years there had been a massive hunt for them, which had caused the deaths of many. Soon, those who remained, gathered in small scattered communities, fearful of a new hunt.
One of the best-known communities was Kirel Valley, home to the Crescent Moon Coven for the past two centuries. It was unusual for anyone to leave. Outside the protective walls of the valley, a witch’s fate was uncertain.
Every leap year, all people aged 15 and over underwent a ceremony: a power classification test. In this way, their elders assessed what powers they possessed and thus which class they belonged to.
This was necessary because the community had only one simple rule: no eximius were allowed.
For many, the eximius were pure evil. Responsible for so many innocent deaths.
In summary, we can say that there are five classes of wizards.
Elementals are natural healers and can control the elements of nature (usually, some are more inclined toward a specific element, but that doesn’t mean they can’t control others). Conjurers work with potions and telepathy, and can cast basic spells such as opening or closing doors and moving things. Divines can predict the future and speak with the dead. On rare occasions, a divine can train and evolve to a level where they can bring dead people back to life for a short period. The fourth class, and not so common, is that of the incognitos. An incognito is what a child born with the blood of a witch and the blood of an alpha is called. And then we have the last class, rare, almost extinct: the eximius. The eximius are always hunted, as they are the strongest of all classes, capable of doing what everyone else does, but perfectly. Their personality is unpredictable, but it has been noted over time that they tend to be irrational, angry, and uncontrollable. They are also called chaos.
The Crescent Moon Coven was known for being peaceful and kind. Other towns would often ask for help with their sick citizens, barren farmlands, and even protection when a threat was made. The reason they had such a reputation was mainly because they only had elementals and conjurers, and an elderly divine couple with unquestionably good hearts.
A community full of good people.
Until then.
