“Jia, have you ever believed in fate? Do you think even if we separate paths we are still the ending,” Jia got confused by Hae-joon's words, so she diverted her gaze on him and immediately asked a question.
“Why did you ask that?” She asked confusedly.
The boy Immediately answered “Nothing…” Hae-joon's eyes remained fixed on the field, but a hint of a bitter smile formed on his lips.
“I’m just curious if you believe on that.” As hae-joon said that, his gaze shifted to Jia, who still looked confused at his words. His stare lingered as if watching every movement of Jia’s hair as the wind played with it.
Jia smiled at hae-joon’s meaningful gaze, so the girl got curious and immediately asked boy. “What's with that look?” Jia just laughed at hae-joon's stare. While looking into hae-joon's eyes, she threw a question at him.
“How about you? Do you believe in fate?” When Jia asked that, she averted her gaze from him and turned it back to the field.
“I don’t know,”
“Why you didn't know?”
“Because I can't answer the question.” Hae-joon's head turned away too and he diverted his gaze upon the sky. The calm yet peaceful breeze of the wind made the scene romantic between the two. Hae-joon took a deep breath before speaking again.
“Fate is a man-made concept. People invent stories, beliefs, and even laws, and those shape reality. Fate is just another way of giving meaning to what might happen to us.”
“So, you don’t believe in fate?”
Hae-joon instantly countered back on what Jia's said.
“No, I still believe on it.”
“But you said…” Jia didn't finish her sentence and was frozen by hae-joon's confession. She didn't even blink for a second because of the sudden shock she felt.
“I still believe in it, as long as you are my fate, Jia.” Hae-joon rises from the seat and turns to face Jia.
“You know, we’ve been friends for a long time, and I think now is the perfect time to say this to you, Jia.” Hae-joon looked nervous, but he could still smile widely despite the tension that had built up between us. He drew in a long breath before continuing.
“Jia, I like you…”
As Jia watched hae-joon confess his feelings, she noticed the tears welling up in hae-joon's eyes. As if, instead of feeling relieved after expressing his emotions, he feels even more sorrowful.
“But can you wait? Can you wait for me? Can you wait for my return?” Hae-joon reached both E lijah's hands and he held them tightly as if it were the last time they would see each other.
“W-what do you mean...?”
Jia's mind was filled with questions in her head, seeing hae-joon crying made her heartache. She wants to question his bestfriend yet she can't because she feels discouraged.
“I know I sound stupid for asking you this, but I want to be selfish right now, even if just this once.” While holding Jia's hand, hae-joon gently lifts Jia's left hand and brings it to his cheek.
“Jia, ten years from now, I will return. Can you promise me...? Can you wait...?”
Hae-joon's eyes were showering from his tears. His hands were still tightly holding jia's hands. He didn't want to end this day, but he couldn't do anything to stop the day.
