It was the summer of 2017. My best friend Missy and I both started working as lifeguards at Bayside Beach, in Orlando, Florida. We have been working here for three weeks now, and haven't saved one life yet. Every chance we get, there goes Avery Jackson. That girl is always three steps ahead. As the only child of Mark and Taylor Jackson, owners of Jackson Enterprises, she is a spoiled brat.

Avery and I used to be friends back in elementary. We would have sleepovers every weekend, make forts, and eat junk food until our stomachs ached. Our birthdays are only 4 days apart, so we had every birthday party together. Once we hit middle school, everything changed. Avery's dad had made some new business partners, and one of them had a daughter our age. She started to go to our school, began to hang out with Avery, and took her from me. It's been four years since Avery and I've talked. Now we work together. I have to see her every day, taking my people to save, but that is going to change.

Missy and I came up with a plan. We would beat Avery to save a life by distracting her when our chance comes. We had everything set up. Our helpers are in place. We just need to wait for the time to come. A few hours later, our time came.
