The following collection of short stories are based on the characters from my comic Frostpeak West. For those who are not familiar with that series, this is a short guide of characters and things that might pop up through this series. However, you are free to skip this if you want to.
What is Frostpeak?
Frostpeak is a place in the South Atlantic, United States, near the Appalachian Mountains. It is usually cold and snowy for most of the year. It is best known for its mysterious Rock Garden, an area that has nothing but rocks for miles.
What is Frostpeak West?
Frostpeak West is an alternative middle school for tweens and teens with emotional and behavioral disorders. Most of the students who attended were expelled from their other schools. However, some of the students may attend there because they prefer the smaller classrooms.
ELEMENTALS
What are Elementals?
Frostpeak exists in a world in which humans, magical people, and Immortal exist. Throughout this series, you will see characters using terms like “Fire-Person”. This is a quick guide to explain what these terms mean.
Human - Someone who is not an elemental. They have no magical powers from birth but may be able to learn spells.
Elemental - Someone whose magic aligns with an element. It is something that they were born with and was passed down from their parents.
Fire-People - People who use fire-magic, usually by forming flames with their hands. 90% of fire-people are male. Because of this, it is very common for Fire-people to be mixed. Fire-people have fangs, though this feature may be less prominent in some women/girls. They have a history of discrimination due to stereotypes about them being violent. Some theorize that they are a close relative to Plant-People. Because of this, some refer to them as “cinder-baby”.
Plant-People - People who use plant-magic, usually growing them out of their hands or turning their limbs into plants. A sub-sect of Plant-People who do mainly tree-magic are referred to as Tree-People.
Mer-People/Water-People - People who use water magic and can also breathe underwater. Some Mer-People will have scales on their legs, but this is less prominent in those who are mixed race. Some Mer-People may appear very pale, almost white. Mer-People who live on land have higher risks of their skin drying out.
Air-People - People who use air-magic, usually by pushing it out through their hands or pushing the surrounding air. Some stronger Air-People have found the ability to use their air-magic to push themselves off the ground and fly. A subset of Air-People have very dark gray skin or wings. Those with dark skin are called Shadow-People. Shadow-People with wings are called Angels.
Earth-People - People who use earth-magic. Earth-people have the ability to manipulate the surrounding earth. In some cases, they can morph the earth into structures or statues. More powerful Earth-People can create golems.
Dud - An elemental who can’t use magic. However, some might refer to humans as duds.
Can someone be the master of all the elements?
No, usually mixed people can only use 2 elements at most. Mixed people also might end up being a dud because the elements cancel each other out or one element is dominant over the other.
OTHER TERMS
Worth - Someone born with psychic powers, which is also referred to as worth. While psychic abilities can be learned, Worths can do it naturally. The amount of psychic energy Worths have is enormous and has led to some Worths being able to bend the fabric of reality. People with psychic abilities can sense other’s souls, revealing what type of magic they have. Worth’s are not elementals and often appear as duds.
Immortals - Elementals who are immortal. They tend to be very old and often detected from reality. Guardians are Immortals who rule over a plot of land or a group of people. Demons are corrupted Immortals. Immortals will sometimes have facial markers, usually associated with their element.
Faya - An ancient language of the Immortals.
