The apprentice let out a groan, tired and haggard. He had bags beneath his eyes and the blinding sunlight didn’t help the case. He let out a muffled grunt and rolled onto his side, setting his paws on his moss nest and pulling his emaciated body off of the ground with disgruntled force. He eyed the outside of the den, lined with flowers, just for him and the medicine cat to use. The ‘handsome’ cat strode forwards, avoiding the tails of sleeping cats and paws of those whom were still ill. It was just becoming sunup, and he was among the first of the cats to awaken. ``aaahhh…….`` He sighed, taking in all of the scents. He was used to the smell of flowers, he was presented with them every day.
``Petalpaw!`` A she-cat’s voice meowed from just behind the apprentice. Perking his ears, he spun around and was quickly muzzle-to-muzzle with his younger kin, whom had just became an apprentice the other day.
``...Eheh, hello, Badgerkit.`` Petalpaw remarked, snorting. He watched as his kin’s face turned from excited to upset. Her large, round, double-colored eyes became but a squinty, questioned look. ``Oh starpelt.`` He muttered.
``That’s BADGERPAW to you, flower tom.`` Badgerpaw hissed, swatting her brother’s head with her paw. With a huff of annoyance, she marched off, bumping into a few cats. Petalpaw let out a mumble and turned around, walking back towards the medicine den. He peered into the medicine cat’s den, spotting a Russian blue she-cat bent over a pile of herbs, seemingly asleep. Perhaps, she’d worked herself to exhaustion and shut-down during the sorting.
``....Minnowtail? Minnowtail??``Petalpaw mewed, stepping into the den.
``Bah! A-and the Horsetail goes there.. There’s the Catmint- an- Oh.. Hello, Petalpaw..`` Minnowtail yelped, her fur puffing up and setting down. She had nice, dark blue-ish fur, and calm ocean teal eyes. She’d have speckles of white here and there, due to pure age. She sat up and looked towards her apprentice. ``Why are you up so early? It’s only early sunup.`` She questioned, squinting until her eyes adjusted to the gentle and subtle light of early morning.
``Well… There’s… there’s a prophecy.`` Petalpaw mumbled. A look of pure awe draped across Minnowtail’s scrunched up and short-muzzled face. She gave one of her gentle smiles and padded towards her apprentice.
``Really?`` Minnowtail awed. Her face lit up with sudden hope and she gave a small toothy smile. ``I knew Starclan wouldn't let us down.. They still care..`` She blinked, looking out towards the sky. ``You should get some prey, It’s going to be a long day.``
