It was a very fine day. The sun was smiling brightly up in
the sky. The Silvermoths were chirping as they fly across the Adrionnian skies.
Everything around him was peaceful and it was the perfect day to do nothing at
all and just sleep in his hammock that was tied up across the two branches of
the Eromahcys tree.
He took a deep breath and grabbed his broomstick to sweep some fallen leaves on the freshly grown grass beneath him. After cleaning the area, he snaps his fingers in the air to conjure a large blue-white checkered picnic blanket and placed it down to the ground-big enough to fit his ten year old body. He removed his large purple sorcerer’s hat and finally laid himself- with both of his palms behind his head as his pillow- in the blanket to stare at the blue sky and chirping Silvermoths, while enjoying the shade provided by the Eromahcys tree.
At last, a peaceful day for himself where he could finally relax after making the treaty of peace with the four greatest magical creatures who threatened the peace of the kingdom, as per request of the king of Adrionne. And this is what he plans to do for the next five years. Peace and solitude.
AFTER GRADUATING at an early age of ten from the Academy of Spells and Encantations, Glazze Neicigam planned to travel across the different kingdoms of the continent just to take some strolls, as well as encounter possible new magic ingredients for his potion. But his plans were suddenly needed to be postponed due to the king’s sudden urgent request.
Four magical beasts have joined their forces to conquer the kingdom and rule over it. He did not want to abide to the king’s request as he can immediately escape from all the disasters because of his magic, but the king pleaded him so many times that it had already gotten to his nerves and it made him change his mind. For the sole purpose of shutting the king’s childish infuriating pleads.
“The kingdom of Adrionne will surely embed your kindness in their hearts Glazz.” King Henry said while shaking hands with the ten years old most powerful magician.
“Yeah yeah, sure Henry. Can I go now?” He said exhaustingly as he released Henry’s hand.
“How dare you talk to the king like that, you---“
The king raised his hand to cut off the head butler’s sudden outrage towards Glazze, “Rudolfo shut it! Thou shan’t speak towards the hero of Addrionne. You as the head butler will provide him with utmost respect. Are we clear Rodulfo?” Henry said in his deep baritone authoritative voice.
Glazze shuddered in grimace on how Henry spoke. While Glazze cringed.
The head butler immediately bowed his head out shame, “Yes, your majesty,” but his glare did not escape Glazze’s peripherals.
“Henry, that was really weird. Please don’t talk like that when I’m around again.” He said with grimace. He’s really grossed out with the way he said it.
“Geez Glazze, you never grew some humor,” he stands up from his throne then leads Glazze towards the castle library. “I need to sound like a king once in a while too, you know.”
He sat in front of the table and Henry sat in front of him. He took one book that was already on the table started reading it, without using his auto-reading spell.
“Do that, but not when I’m around.” He sternly said.
Henry pouted.
His eyebrows knotted. “That too.” He puts the book back to the table and crosses one of his legs over the other while his hands clasped together sat on his knee.
Henry sighed. “Fine, fine. I will stop now.”
“So what did you call me here for? I told you, I don’t need any rewards besides my privacy and freedom.” If this was not of any importance, he would leave immediately.
“About the mysterious dreams you have that you told me before. The disturbing ones, I think I may have a solution on the real reason why you have them.”
He became interested in an instant. He needs to know why he keeps on having dreams about a war and a woman who was obviously much older than him. But in his dream, he cared for the woman, like she’s the most important creature for him, which is uncanny because he is only ten years old, though he thinks beyond his age, he doesn’t remember falling in love with anyone. Maybe he is dreaming someone else’s dream, nonetheless, he needs to know the reason why he is having these dreams.
“What do you know, Henry?” he asked in anticipation.
“Have you ever heard of the ‘Pearl of the Ytirev’?”
“‘Pearl of Ytirev?’” he has never heard of it. Not even in the academy. “How come I’ve never heard of that?” He’s the greatest magician ad far as he knows. This type of knowledge should not have escaped from him.
“It was a much kept secret from the people of Jourbon Kingdom. I wouldn’t even know it myself it wasn’t for the diplomatic meeting I had with their king. I only overheard it from the hostlers who were talking about a certain celebration about a dragon and phoenix appearing to give them the pearl to the kingdom.”
Jourbon is a kingdom high atop the mountains. As much as the possibility offers, the people of Jourbon stay away from the other kingdoms. They like to keep their ancient tradition intact with them as long as possible.
“It is said that the pearl has the power to make someone the truth of the past of anyone who wishes to it. It can show unlimited pasts, but only for three days and in every five years. They said the pearl is white upon giving and it turns black upon returning. The dragon will give it to the king while the phoenix is the one to retrieve it back. It’s a tradition passed in every new ruler.”
“What’s the deal with the three days in every five years?” Glazze can’t help but ask.
“The pearl is created from a forbidden love between the dragon and the phoenix. It’s kind of a long story. It’s better to hear it from the folks from Jourbon, cause I can’t remember all of the details, but what’s important is that it could give you the answer you’ve been looking for about that weird dream of yours. All I know is that it appears only every five years and the power of the pearl only lasts for three days.”
“But the pearl’s power is to see the past, not the reason why I have this dreams.”
“Glazze, I think your dream has something to do with your past. I can feel it. I heard about that pearl for a reason.”
He thought about it. Henry might be a mischievous king most of the time, but he was never wrong about his hunches.
“Alright, I will try that idea since it is currently possible solution that we have.” He is really itching to know the reason of these dreams. And it has been bothering him for the past months.
“So when is this event going to happen?”
“Uhm…” Henry awkwardly scratched the corner of his eyebrow and his eyes are all over the place. “About that… apparently, the phoenix just recently retrieved the pearl a few days before I got there, so it won’t happen again for the next five years?” He laughed akwardly, “…sorry about that.”
“What?! So the solution you just proposed won’t happen until five years?! Great!” he exclaimed sarcastically.
“Oh come, Glazze, as if you-the greatest magician, who defeated the four greatest magical beasts- could come up with another possible solution? Come on, I let you hit me in the nose if you did have one.”
He sighed. Henry’s right, he can’t think of any other answer. “Then, I’ll just have to wait. Five years isn’t that long anyway.”
Yeah, all he needs to do is to find something to do to kill those five years.
And he is going to kill those five years by doing nothing at all.
He started yawning and was about to laze out until tomorrow when suddenly, a rumble from the ground replaced his sleepiness with irritation.
