I had a dream, a strange one. Upon waking up, I felt like my head was about to explode. The sound of my alarm drilled my ears, as if it was trying to enter to take over my consciousness. It almost looked like a truck walked over me. My whole body hurted. «Something bad is going to happen». My body shuddered.
- ¿Something bad is going to happen?
I couldn't help but, incredulous, draw a faint smile on my face. «Something bad is going to happen». Suddenly, a strange voice in my head repeated it. I staggered towards the bathroom. I was surprised to see myself in the mirror and find that tears were flowing from my eyes, no, rather it looked like a waterfall. My eyes were swollen and I could hardly see anything. «Something bad is going to happen». I was exalted in the face of that repetitive thought and fell on the ground. I wanted to stand up, but my body decided to stop listening to me. I felt my chest swell again and again, but still the air did not enter easily. My legs and arms each moved as it suited him, and my eyes seemed to melt hard.
I'm not sure, maybe it was 30 minutes, maybe more, maybe less, but finally my body decided to listen to me again.«Something bad is going to happen». -ENOUGH!- My heart felt restless and I couldn't help but scream. I don't have time for this, I'm going to be late.
While Adele was sitting in the dining room not understanding if the bitter feeling in her mouth was a product of the voice that kept appearing in her thoughts or it was thanks to the toast she ate, her cellphone rang. It was a message from Alfredo. Adele got frozen, and after hesitating a bit, she whispered. -Something bad is going to happen- with disgust turned her cellphone and continued eating her toast. But this didn't stop. It rang two, three, five times. «Something bad is going to happen». She could feel how her hands went numb and a few drops of sweat trickled down slowly and toured the entire profile of her face.
- It can't be, it's a joke, isn't it?
She tried to laugh, but instead made a strange, strained face that would scare any child on Halloween. «Something bad is going to happen». Hesitated for a few seconds and finally, willing to read the messages, she reached for her cell phone. She felt a part of herself vanish as she swiped her finger across the screen. Was surprised to see that she not only found a text that said [Alfredo- 1 message], but also [Mom- 4 messages]. She thought it best to read the Mom ones first.
- Hi, Ad.
- I need you to come home.
- There's something important we need to talk about.
- Is an emergency.
«Something bad is going to happen». That voice that until then appeared sporadically in her thoughts, invaded her entire being. Adele could hear her heart trying to escape in terror, but she too wanted to run away with it. Whatever Alfredo will say, it won't be good.
- You need to come home. your sister disappeared.
Suddenly, not only her heart wanted to escape, but also her soul. Everything spun and went dark.
- I had a dream, a strange one.
[Tic, tac, tic, tac]. The sound of the clock interrupted her thoughts. Confused, she took the cell phone. About 12 hours had passed, it was dark. Her cell phone showed that she had 18 missed calls from Mom and 2 from Alfredo.
- I must go home.
«Go home?» Those words seemed strange to her, unknown, as if she did not understand the meaning of what she had just said. She got up from the ground still confused by what had happened. She went up to the bathroom and was surprised to see her face. But this time she wasn't surprised by tears in her eyes, but bruises and scratches that weren't limited to one area, but spread mercilessly along her neck and arms. Frightened, she undressed. She had no sense, her whole body was full of bruises and fresh wounds.
- What the hell happened? – Nothing made sense.
- This morning I had nothing, yes, I definitely had nothing…. No, wait!... when I looked in the mirror I couldn't see anything because of the tears... but…
I tried to remember what had happened. I had a dream, a strange one.
I was walking back home, it was late. It was a particularly tiring day and I just wanted to go to sleep. The post light flickered. Strangely the city was especially quiet, as if all the people had had a day as tired as mine and just decided to go to sleep early. I looked at the time, it was 12:30 am. It had been raining all day and by then I was completely drenched. I sneezed a couple of times.
- Damn it!
My head ached, maybe I had a fever. In the midst of the silence of the city, I could hear a couple of footsteps indiscreetly approaching me. Before I managed to turn my head I felt a strong impact on my occipital bone. Everything went dark. When I opened my eyes again I saw how the sky moved. Or rather, did I? I felt something dig into my back. Only then did I realize that someone was dragging me by the feet. "Someone?" "a man?" He was hooded, he had on a black raincoat. I could hear how the drops fell and impacted on him. My head hit the ground and only then did I realize «I am being kidnapped»
- HELP!
He stopped, walked over to me, and everything faded away. When I opened my eyes I could see something that was familiar to me. That big wooden door with a circular window in the middle. I did notice a few scratches on the bottom. The door creaked open. In my confusion I could see a chest of drawers and on it a brown lamp. My right arm brushed against some gray armchairs that looked somewhat worn. I could see a large and heavy wooden table with four chairs. It was obvious, it was my house. I tried to kick, I grabbed the furniture, but it was useless. In my desperation something made of glass fell to the ground and exploded.
[Ring, ring]
Adele was startled. Her thoughts troubled her, but her mind stopped, and her heart shrank as she saw who was calling her.
- Hello?
- Where are you? I told you Abigail disappeared, why don't you come home yet?
- …
- You better come quick. Your mother is desperate, we just got back from the police station.
- ….
- Did you hear me!?
- … Yes
Nothing that happened made sense.
- Abigail, what happened to you?
Adele barely managed to murmur without much strength and suddenly an image appeared in her mind. She was sharp, so vivid she almost thought she was real. She could see her kidnapper standing in front of her. She saw her eyes, her huge dark eyes, her pompous lips, which elongated without disguise to show a perfect smile, her long, sharp nose and pronounced red cheekbones.
Adele shuddered, she had no doubts, she could see herself or rather, she could see her twin sister, Abigail.
