"No...no what are you doing?! Don't fucking touch that!!!", came a shout as a gloved hand reached out to smack probing fingers away from the controls. "But boss, it's just a doll what's the harm of letting the kids see it?", The other man in the room stood beside the chair seating the person who sat at the controls.
"Because you idiot! The Doll must never be moved! EVER! Now get your lazy ass back to work and stop fucking around in the control room! I mean it John, keep this shit up and see what happens to your paycheck!", John, the man in question yelped as his boss, Kyo shouted at him. John worked in a kids play place for a few years before being fired for, 'endangering the company property,' as his former boss would put it. John sighed through his nose as he watched Kyo exit the control room and head down the hall. Joining in beside him was the assistant manager of Kyomaru's Kid's Museum. Kyo's 39 year old assistant had brought in an old doll that he'd found in his parents basement. John stood up and walked over to the plaque that was nailed into the wall in front of the doll's display tank.
He leaned down and squinted as he read the elegantly written text on the plaque.
"The many hands that rip into my very core. They rend my flesh from the bone and do nothing but gnaw until every shred of skin is devoured. Gnashing fangs of pure hatred and deceit eat away at my soul and leave the barest remnants of a hollow shell behind. They all seek my destruction, they all want nothing more than for me to draw my last breath as they dance around the ever fading fire of everything I held dear. They cast me into their cold hands, claws sharper than ice. They hold me close and pretend to care before enclosing their mouths over my head and crushing it betwixt their jaws. Clawed fingers into my eye sockets dig, until their hooked inside my brain. …."
He paused as he read this, confusion spreading across his face. He shook his head at the sense of dread that creeped down his spine, whoever wrote this was filled with a kind of pain that no one should have to experience.
He carried on reading it regardless.
"...Slowly they retract, taking my soul out through my eyes. They want me to suffer before they end my life, they want me to feel the pain that they deem I deserve for merely existing. They all want to laugh at my wounds as they stand and watch me bleed to death. I am broken, the walls I attempt to climb too slick with my own blood. The foot holds crumbled to ashes by their words, all of them, in their own way, they view me as a monster whose demise should have come as soon as life entered my body. Perhaps my brother should be alive instead of me? Maybe that would have appeased them, satisfied them, filled them with what they needed. My brother whom was filled with so much potential even before exiting the womb. Zev was my brothers name, my parents wanted the best for him. Always and only him never looking in my direction for even a second"
He paused at that thinking quietly to himself before he continued on.
"...Leaving me to languish as they rushed from doctor to doctor in order to save him alone. So this is my punishment for being alive, being born as I was born, the shadows inside my own mind destroying the relationships with the people who matter to me the most. I cannot think, I cannot focus, all I can do is build, build this creature and hope that through it, I can finally be of use to at least myself, to satisfy the bloodlust that cries out inside my own veins. To quench the thirst of wanting to show each and every one of them how wrong they were to throw me into hell for merely being alive. I will build this....doll....even if it kills me in the end....",
he finished reading the passage, opting to go home for the night. “Kyo I’m clocking out!” he called out as his boss walked past him once he entered the lobby after working for the better part of the day.
“Alright John, tell Dirk I need him in here by five tomorrow and Dave too if you can! I know the kid’s busy with high school just starting but who cares, in this day and age you need work experience!” Kyo slapped his employee on the back before he finally left the room.
John nodded, adjusting his glasses as he walked out of the building. He was John Bertern, he worked at the kids museum alongside Dirk and his temperamental teenage son Dave Rift, Dirk’s ex-wife Roxxy Malacorn-Rift and Dirk's cousin Calliope Cassiopia.
