I reach into my pockets and pull out my keys, I shuffle through the keychain till I find the one that fits my front door. I push it into the lock and turn, with a creek my apartment door opens and everything is just how I left it. Papers all around the floor from my last night’s study session, posters all over the walls of my favorite music artists, clothes that need to be washed in a basket, and my bed still unfolded because I was in a rush this morning. I place my plain purple backpack on the floor and feel relief from my back. I unlock my phone to check the time, 4:30 pm. I finished all my classes for the day so I walk over to my unfolded bed and plop myself down. I allow myself to sit there for a few minutes, I really needed a break. Being a college freshman can get hard sometimes. As flip to my side, *ring* I get a message on my phone. I push down on the button that is on the side, lighting up the screen. The notification reads “Mom”, I tap and enter my password. “Hi, sunshine! Your father and I are coming to visit you for your birthday, we can’t believe you’re going to be 18. Love Fam” I almost forgot my birthday was tomorrow, that also means I should fix the apartment up before they arrive. I also decide that I will ask them the question that they keep avoiding, tomorrow. I stand up, off my bed, sad, knowing my break is over but smile knowing tomorrow is Friday. My stomach hurting and hungry but I push the feeling past me like I always do and stack the papers in a pile, placing them in a draw. I pick up the basket of worn clothes and throw them into the washer and press start. I decide to ignore my bed since I will be laying in it tonight and would mess it up again. I realized that the room had darkened. Taking steps to the light switch lifting my cold fingers and pushing the deep black lever up. My room lights up and I take a glance at the white and blue tie-dye clock on the wall, 5 pm. I guess it's already time for dinner, turning back off the lights that I just turned on. Stepping barefoot on the cold wooden floor, swinging open my dark brown cabinets. Holding the pink glass cup and pushing it into the water dispenser on the side of the fridge. Taking massive gulps, wanting more than a cup but not allowing myself to. I place the cup into the sink, leaving it for tomorrow morning. The clothes done from the washer, I push them back into the basket for me to put into the dryer tomorrow because I am tired and desperately want to sleep. I leave the blue basket with wet clothes on the floor and throw myself onto my bed. Forgetting that I am not in my pajamas and haven’t brushed my teeth yet, I pull myself up and stumble into the bathroom. I pick up my teal electric toothbrush out of the cup, place a blob of toothpaste, and fill the cup up with sink water. I brush and change out of my day clothes, now I can officially lie down on my bed without having to get up. I sit on the side of my bed, open my laptop to my school project that is due next Tuesday.
After spending a while working on the project, I notice it was 6:30 pm and I decide to stop for the night. Although it was quite early to go to bed, I really needed sleep. I feel my eyes drooping, and I feel physically incapable of doing anything more. I place my phone on the wireless charger that was gifted to me for my last birthday. My phone beeps, verifying that it is charging and I pull my purple sheets over me and shut my eyes.
