“Is there still a long way to go? I didn't think it was that far from this village."
A person in a robe and a hood was talking to himself while walking on a dirt road.
“Well, at least I didn't have any unexpected encounters with any monsters during this last journey” (Clothed Person)
[It's been a long time, since the last time I took a delivery order to some distant place where there was no caravan there, I think it was a bad idea in the end, even though the payment is great, it's been 2 months since I'm walking.] (Person with Cloak)
“And even so I didn't reach my goal, next time I'll think about it, walking a long distance is really exhausting and exhausting, it's not worth the price.” (Person with Cloak)
He takes a rolled-up paper from under his cloak and opens it.
"According to the map, Pine Village is just beyond this mountain." (Person with Cloak)
After walking for a while longer, he reaches the top of the mountain.
"Finally." (Person with Cloak)
He was panting as he was walking without stopping, but looking ahead he could see the Village.
“I think today I'll be able to sleep under a roof and not outdoors, that's great! It will be a good night's sleep in a long time!"
As he said this he smiled a little.
He removed the hood from the cloak that covered his face, he was a young boy with black hair, appeared to be 17 to 20 years old.
As he approached the entrance to the village he saw that at the entrance there was a man with a stout body and orange hair wielding a spear, probably a lookout to warn of possible invaders.
As the boy approached, the man immediately pointed his gun at him as if ready to attack. "Hold on! Who are you? And what do you want in our Village?” (Man with Spear)
With an expression of disappointment, the boy stares at him as he puts his right hand on his hip and looks at him smiling.
"I am a Delivery Person coming from the Post Office of the City of Avárias, I came to make a delivery." (Boy with Cloak)
The man is startled by the boy's statement.
"You? A delivery man? Don't come up with those blatant lies child, you must be just a wandering bandit...” (Man with Spear)
Before he can finish saying what he was talking about, the boy takes off his gloves and raises his hand and shows the back of his right hand to him, on it had written J628.
"A code from a Delivery Person?" (Man with Spear)
After seeing this the man soon lowered his spear.
“I'm sorry I was rude, but let me check your code?” (Lance Man)
"Of course." (Boy with Cloak)
The boy approaches and lets the man examine his hand.
[Seems that at least he knows about that, after all a Deliverer's code is written by magic, it's not something one can easily replicate.] (Boy in Cloak)
“It really doesn't have any kind of flaws or any crooked features. It's true” (Man with Spear)
The man looks at the boy with a surprised look.
“I'm sorry again for my mistake.” (Man with Spear)
"Okay, it was nothing." (Boy with Cloak)
"Well, so now can I pass?" (Boy with Cloak)
“Oh! Yes of course! Sorry about earlier, I was a bit rude. It's just that I didn't think I'd see a boy as young as a delivery boy.” (Man with Spear)
"Okay, don't worry, you were just doing your job." (Boy with Cloak)
"I'm really sorry, my name is Dylan, it's a pleasure to meet you and what's your name?" (Dylan)
As Dylan spoke he had a smile on his face, he seemed to be happy to see some traveler, but the boy didn't seem to care about that.
"My name is not important, I'm in a bit of a hurry, I'd like to finish this before nightfall." (Boy with Cloak)
Dylan soon noticed the boy's lack of interest in talking and was a little discouraged. "You're right, it must have been a long trip after all." (Dylan)
"I came to deliver a letter and a small package to Brayden, do you know this man?" (Boy with Cloak)
“Brayden-sama? He is the Village Leader.” (Dylan)
"Could you show me the way to him?" (Boy with Cloak)
“Oh, sure! No problem at all, I can even take you to him if I want.” (Dylan)
"Yes, it will be a big help, thanks." (Boy with Cloak)
Upon hearing that Dylan smiled again and regained his spirits quickly, it was quite easy to notice.
[He's a very sincere guy, it's easy to understand him. ] (Boy with Cloak)
After walking a little, they arrive at the house of the Village Leader.
"Wait here, I'll let you know you came here to see him" (Dylan)
"Right." (Boy with Cloak)
[Even after walking around the city, I don't remember seeing anything that looks even familiar, in the morning I'll walk around the city more calmly, but it looks like it's not here either.] (Boy with a Mantle)
While the boy was thoughtful with a hand on his chin looking down, Dylan returned without him noticing.
"Hey Boy?" (Dylan)
"Boy?" (Dylan)
"Hey Boy are you listening?" (Dylan)
"Hm?" (Boy with Cloak)
"What is that? Was he so tired he fell asleep standing up? Haha! He said you can go see him now, follow me." (Dylan)
"IT'S! haha!” (Boy with Cloak)
“Well, shall we? (Dylan)
“Okay, thank you.” (Boy in Cloak)
When he arrived in the living room of the house there was a man with brown hair waiting for him standing.
[Hm, he's not as old as I thought, for an old man.] (Boy in Cloak)
“Welcome Deliverer, I am Brayden. And what's your name?" (Brayden)
"Thank you for having me Brayden-sama." (Boy with Cloak)
"As for my name, I prefer not to say, you can call me by my code or just Delivery." (Boy with Cloak)
The boy raises his hand and shows his J628 code to Brayden.
"I understand. It is true that Deliverers can only identify themselves by their Code if they so wish. As you wish then, Deliveryman.” (Brayden)
Brayden looks at Dylan.
"Thanks for bringing you here Dylan, you're dismissed." (Brayden)
"It was nothing Brayden-sama." (Dylan)
He extends his hand to the boy, directing the chairs for them to sit down. After sitting down.
"So what did you come to deliver to me?" (Brayden)
“A letter and a small package. If you can confirm the veracity and integrity of both.” (Deliveryman)
The boy places them both on the small table in front of them, and after Brayden takes a look at them both and sees a symbol stamped on top of each.
"Both are still sealed and here really are the Post Office stamps." (Brayden)
"Then if you would please confirm receipt." (Deliveryman)
"Certainly." (Brayden)
The boy takes a sheet from under his robe and places it on the table.
Brayden takes a stamp and presses it against the sheet and signs his name on it.
"With that, the delivery was effectively completed, right my dear Deliveryman?" (Brayden)
"Yes, exactly." (Deliveryman)
"So what do you plan to do now?" (Brayden)
"I'm going to look for somewhere I can spend the night, and tomorrow I plan to walk around the Village a bit before I go." (Deliveryman)
"I understand." (Brayden)
"So, if the Lord can point me to a place where I could stay, it would be a great help." (Deliveryman)
“Well, how about spending the night here? It's not like there's an inn in a Village as small as this one.” (Brayden)
"Oh, I couldn't bother you with that." (Deliveryman)
"It wouldn't actually be a bother, but I'd like you to do me a favor in return." (Brayden)
"A favor? And what favor would that be?” (Deliveryman)
"I would like you to talk to my son about your work and clarify your doubts." (Brayden)
"Why would you want something like that?" (Deliveryman)
“He wanted to work as a Delivery Person in the future so that he could leave the village, and be able to visit other cities and other countries.” (Brayden)
“But, that's not what you want right? (Deliveryman)
Brayden makes a sad expression.
"I see, do you want me to scare you or something then?" (Deliveryman)
"No, no need to lie, the truth of what your job is like should be enough." (Brayden)
"I understand." (Deliveryman)
[The truth is? Really the truth can be a lot harder than some sweet lies.] (Deliveryman)
"Okay, I accept." (Deliveryman)
"Okay, so let's talk over dinner." (Brayden)
Later, arriving at dinner time. They reunite, this time Brayden's son and his wife were present too.
She was a woman with brown hair and looked about the same age as Brayden, and her son, like his father, had brown hair.
The son appeared to be quite young, from 12 to 13 years old.
"Thanks for inviting me to dinner." (Deliveryman)
"It was nothing." (Brayden)
Saying this Brayden stretches his hand in front of his wife and child.
"This is my wife Eloise and my son Bryson." (Brayden)
“It's an honor to meet you.” (Deliveryman)
"Equally Mr. Delivery Person." (Eloise)
"Equally Mr. Delivery Person." (Bryson)
Bryson looks at the Delivery Man smiling, and in sudden excitement he starts to ask.
“So the Lord has been a Deliverer for how long? Have you visited many places? Have you ever been to other countries?..." (Bryson)
The Delivery Man is startled by the boy's sudden shower of questioning.
“Bryson! What did we talk about before about this attitude of yours?" (Eloise)
Upon having his attention called by his mother, the boy stops immediately.
"I'm sorry Mom, I'm sorry Mr Delivery." (Bryson)
"Don't worry, it wasn't a big deal, I was just surprised by your excitement." (Deliveryman)
"It's because I've never talked to a Delivery Person in person, so I was very excited." (Bryson)
"I understand." (Deliveryman)
"Well, first let's eat before the food gets cold." (Eloise)
"That's right, after dinner you'll have plenty of time to talk." (Brayden)
Everyone sits down at the table and starts eating. But young Bryson could barely contain his excitement as he ate all the while looking at the Deliverer.
[He can barely stand we've finished dinner, to start his questioning again, he actually seems very excited about this idea of being a Delivery Man.] (Deliveryman)
The Delivery Man looks at Brayden, who returns his gaze with a sad smile.
Then the delivery man remembers the conversation he had with Brayden before dinner.
"You don't want to keep him here in the Village forever against his will, but in this case, you won't be able to stop him from being a Delivery Man when he comes of age." (Deliveryman)
"That's right." (Brayden)
"I'd like you to avoid talking about the good points of being a Deliverer while answering your questions." (Brayden)
"I see, you want me to tell the truth, but you also want to keep him from seeing the merits of this job." (Deliveryman)
“It would be more just to lie to him or distort the story a little.” (Deliveryman)
"Maybe, but we always have a delivery man coming to the Village every year like you." (Brayden)
“At some point he would be able to ask another Deliverer directly when you weren't around and then that would be the end of this farce.” (Deliveryman)
"Exactly." (Brayden)
"That's why I'm asking you, can you do this?" (Brayden)
Brayden had a very serious expression on his face.
[He really cares about his son.] (Deliveryman)
“Very well, I will do my best.” (Deliveryman)
Back at dinner, they were done. The boy could barely stand to start his questions, seeing this the Deliveryman looks at his parents and smiles.
"Well, since we're done, now I can start answering your questions." (Deliveryman)
Bryson smiles as he puts his hands on the table showing a lot of excitement.
"How many years have you worked as a Delivery Person?" (Bryson)
"It's been just over ten years." (Deliveryman)
"Eh? Has it been that long? Amazing." (Bryson)
“Surely you've visited many different Villages and Cities, right?” (Bryson)
“Yes, I've been to many places and I've seen several different Towns and Villages.” (Deliveryman)
“This is so cool! Have you ever been to another country?" (Bryson)
"Yes, actually this is the third country I've been through, if you take into account the country where I registered." (Deliveryman)
The boy's eyes lit up at hearing these things, but his parents seemed to be more concerned with each passing second and the Deliverer noticed it.
“Not only cities, but different countries, different cultures, all of this is so amazing, just hearing about it makes me even more excited to be able to work as a Delivery Person.” (Bryson)
Eloise, while trying to maintain her composure, looks desperately at Brayden.
Brayden was obviously not happy with the Deliverer's responses and he knew it.
“Mr. Deliveryman, is it true that all deliverymen have a Code painted with Magic on the back of their right hands?" (Bryson)
"Yes it's true." (Deliveryman)
The Deliverer raises his hand and shows the boy his Code.
“J628? Do they have any meaning? For each person?” (Bryson)
“No, none actually, it's just a number that follows a certain sequence, when I registered that was her current number.” (Deliveryman)
"Sequence? How does it work?" (Bryson)
“I don't know if it varies for each country, but where I registered, it followed a pattern, very strict in order of registration. It started from A001 to A999, when it reached registration number A999, it would pass the next letter of the alphabet and start counting from zero, that is, the next would be B001." (Deliveryman)
"So when the Lord registered, you were already number 628 in alphabetical order J?" (Bryson)
“That's right Bryson, you understand fast.” (Deliveryman)
"Hehe." (Bryson)
It was pretty clear that Bryson was quite happy with the conversation they were having. "There are a lot more Deliverers than I thought." (Bryson)
“So it's actually a lot less dangerous work than my dad used to say. Since there are so many people.” (Bryson)
Brayden begins to lose his composure and his mother lets her worry show. "That's not quite how things are, son." (Brayden)
“How not? Didn't you hear him say how many years he has been working as a Delivery Person and how many people have already been registered? Can you imagine how many more have been registered after him since then?” (Bryson)
Brayden was clearly frustrated at not being able to steer the conversation in the direction he wanted and was beginning to despair.
“Son this is…” (Brayden)
"This is what?" (Bryson)
[The true right?...] (Deliveryman)
