Let There Be Light

An unexpected gift

An unexpected gift

Sep 12, 2022

- Bye grandpa - He ran out of his house closing the door, a boy, with a piece of bread in his mouth - See you later.

What made a white-haired gentleman, with glasses and a beret, go towards the door of the room where the boy came out and shouted as far as he could:

- Don't be late for dinner.

- Alright grandpa, I love you - Said the boy crossing the last gate before the street - Now I have to go because I'm already late.

The red-haired boy locked the gate and ran towards the school, he had woken up late and that would probably interfere with his walking at school, as smart as he was, waking up too early was not one of Gael Silva's specialties.

The boy was an ordinary 16-year-old boy, with red hair and freckles on his face, his green eyes reflected in the lenses of his glasses and Gael's delay to school had a reason: anime.

That day the boy was wearing a blue sweatshirt with two stripes on his right sleeve almost at shoulder height, his red hair and greenish eyes stand out even more with that blouse.

It was late autumn and early winter in the region where Gael lived, the leaves on the trees were just falling, even though many of the ones in his neighborhood weren't seasonal, it was a great contrast to the ones that were.

And the reason for the boy's delays had an explanation, he recently started to marathon One Piece and was almost reaching the Marineford saga, which made him stay up almost the whole night in clear and always leaving late for school, his grandfather had already given up on making Gael sleep early and not be late, his grades were good and that was enough for him.

And speaking of Mr. Silva, in addition to being Gael's grandfather, was like a father to the boy, since the whereabouts of his parents were a mystery, because every time you wanted to say that to the boy, he wouldn't let him, the justification was that it didn't matter, that he didn't care about what had happened to his parents since his grandfather had always been his great father and his grandmother had been his great mother.

It had been about 2 years since Gael's grandmother had died and now, in that whole house, the only residents were him and that lovely old man, Dona Jacira, as she was known in the neighborhood where they lived, they missed them enormously, but they had to go on with life, that was the lady's greatest wish.

In short Gael was a person with a good heart, he had his problems like every teenager has, an unrequited crush, studying, playing video games and watching anime and reading manga, in this case his recent passion was an anime called One Piece that his friend Luis Felippe insisted so much for him to see it.

At that time, running through the streets of the Morumbi neighborhood, Gael had already eaten every piece of bread that had come out of the house in his mouth, he was still five minutes from school and kept running to school so he wouldn't be late again. time this week.

Gael always went with his friends to class, it was the last house Daniella and Luis passed by before they went their separate ways, but due to the holes in their recent calls, they said they wouldn't pass today and it was said and done, now, Silva was running through the streets of the neighborhood so as not to be late.

The neighborhood he lived in was in the south of the city, which was called São José dos Campos, a metropolis in the interior of São Paulo in Brazil, a city that had its problems, but that was very good to live in, Gael liked to live there, in that neighborhood he grew up and met his friends.

The streets were full of trees, which made Gael feel good, even though on rainy days the branches would fall and end up with the energy preventing him from watching his anime and playing video games, but he understood that they gave that feeling that he liked living in that neighborhood so much.

His commute was done with his friends in a different way, he was the biggest for a reason, so he could go talking to Daniella and Luis about what he was watching or reading at that moment, as much as the girl didn't like One so much. Piece, hearing so much about the two of them talking about the work, decided to give the anime a chance recently.

But that day, he had to take the shortest route if he wanted to get to class on time, there were 3 minutes left for the gate to close, if he arrived at 07:01 he would miss the first class and could only enter the second, missing the first class and as it is already the third late this month, he would take a warning.

When he crossed the second-to-last street to get to school, he realized that he would have time to get to class without having to miss the first one, but then he heard a pop coming from the street he was crossing, when he looked to the side Gael realized that a transformer had exploded on the pole, but what he saw at the foot of that structure caught his attention even more.

Gael wondered if he would really be able to go there, if he chose to see what what he called his name was all about.

At the same time, he would miss the first class, but he couldn't ignore what he was seeing.

People started to leave their houses when they noticed the power outage and the transformer exploded, no one seemed to have noticed what Gael had noticed was a man dressed in casual clothes at the foot of the pole.

Gael turned to a lady who had left the house and asked:

– Excuse me, good morning, sorry to ask a clueless question at this time of day, but are you seeing the same thing as me? - Said the boy pointing in the direction of the pole to draw attention to the woman who addressed the word.

The lady who appeared to be in her forties, looked at Gael with a face that she didn't believe the question she was hearing and replied:

- Hey boy, didn't you see the transformer exploded on the pole? - Asked the lady, not understanding the reason for the boy's questioning.

Gael left the conversation before she even finished noting that she wouldn't get the answer he wanted, he walked towards the boy.

Silva approached the man who was unconscious, he realized that there was a pool of blood under him, Gael already understood that he could not move the body and decided that he had to call 911 as no one there seemed to do that.

Gael looked at him and came to the conclusion that the man lying on the floor was in his 30s, his hair was long, it seemed to reach shoulder length, his beard covered his entire face, he was on his stomach and lying with his right cheek touching the floor, there was no longer any sign of breathing.

Gael dialed 190 on his cell phone, turned to the other side and began to look for some rationality as to why only he was seeing that man stretched out at the foot of that pole and no one else, the call rang twice and someone answered:

- Hello good morning. I would like to talk about a murder – Gael stated when confirming what he was seeing – Yes, yes, that's right, a murder on the old 18th street at the height of house 135, Jardim Morumbi in São José dos Campos.

When Gael said that and looked at the body again, the gentleman who was lying on the ground was no longer at the foot of the pole, but standing with totally white eyes, but now there was a sword in his right hand, it didn't seem like he was alive, yet his body was moving on its own.

When Gael threatened to run from what he was seeing, the lord came to meet the boy, sticking his sword at the boy's stomach and then what was making the dead body move dissipated letting him fall hard on the ground once more.

Silva had no reaction and when he felt the impact, his body lost all energy and the boy fell to his knees, he tried to ask for help, but the only thing that came out of his mouth was blood, a lot of blood, he knelt on the floor and his body was fading, all his consciousness leaving, Gael felt his knees give way and his body vanished, falling completely to the ground and trying to help someone unknown, he saw his destiny drawn to death.

Gael is an ordinary kid, just like you reading this synopsis, or at least he was until one fateful day. Because waking up late for school, like any other day, our young otaku ended up finding something that changed his life forever.
Even if, amid a crowd of people, Gael was the only one who saw a body lying at the foot of a pole in his neighborhood, but what happened next will change his future forever.
The beauty of this novel is that all battle results will be decided on the dice, in the same RPG system, so not even the author knows the fate of his characters. If you love stories like Bleach, One Piece and some other anime and manga, Let There Be Light, will be your weekly novel!
