"Happy Birthday, Sweetheart!" Cried Alfred while handing Lucy a small gift wrapped in newspaper and tied with an ivory colored thread. 

"Boohoo, another boring and pathetic present." Said Lucy, scraping the table with a fork while resting her left cheek on the palm of her left hand.  

"Honey! That was very disrespectful. Apologize immediately!" Yelled the mother. 

"But it's true, granddad always gives me really boring presents. Last time I asked him for roller skates and I got butterscotch candy. This time I asked for a necklace but it might be something that I didn't ask for. Granddad, why do you have to be such a cheapskate?" Asked Lucy facing her grandfather with a pout on her face.

"Lucy!" Yelled Lucy's mother.

"It's okay, she's just a kid." Laughed the grandfather softly, having the brightest smile in the world. "I've faced life a lot harder than this. Now here, open your present. I guarantee you will love it."

Alfred handed Lucy the present with so much care.

"I hope so." Lucy grabbed the present hoping that it will be a necklace because the gift looks so small. "At least you could have bought better wrapping paper." Giggled Lucy. As she opened the present, her smile faded.

Lucy was so disappointed because she thought that for once, she would have something she wanted. "I hate you, granddad!" Cried Lucy running out of the kitchen.

"Lucy! Come back right now and apologize young lady!" 

"Don't worry dear. She definitely likes her gift."

"But papa, that is no way to act in front of her elders. She definitely didn't like her present."

"If she doesn't like it now she will like it later. Trust me." Laughed Alfred softly. 

As Lucy started to run further and further away from her home, she trips and face plants to the ground. She sits up and looks to see what she tripped on. It was the edge of a box buried in the ground. 

"Who on earth leaves something half buried? Even a baby can do better than that, heck even my 1-year-old dog can do better."

Lucy gets a closer look on the half-buried object and digs it out with her bare hands. When she finally got it out of the ground, she rubbed off the excess dirt. She noticed that there was writing underneath the box and read:

After reading her name on the box, she immediately ran back to her home. 

"I'm home!" Hollered Lucy and ran toward her grandfather that was sitting on a chair, to give him a light peck on his right wrinkly cheek. "Thank you for the present, I love it. Without it, I would have never run into something so cool." 

"I'm glad you liked it, now hurry to your room and open that box." 

Lucy nodded and ran up the stairs.

"I told you she likes it." Smirked Alfred.

"Papaaaa." Pouted the mother. "But, what's with that box. I don't think it's hers. Where did she even get it?

"It's hers alright." Smiled Alfred. 

Lucy entered her bedroom and immediately put the box on her bed and admired it. 

"So that's why granddad gave me this key for my birthday?" Lucy giggled.
